FRANK Warren has told John Murray to forget about a Battle of Britain clash with Amir Khan.

Murray regained his British lightweight title in stunning fashion on Saturday and immediately challenged WBA light-welterweight champion Khan to a mouth-watering showdown.

But Khan's promoter, Warren, insists there is no chance of the bout taking place, claiming Murray has missed his chance of a potentially epic battle. "We made an offer to John and they never came back, so that is dead in the water now," he said.

"We don't want any cry baby stuff now saying they want this and that. They had their opportunity and they didn't even respond to it. He was on the list. He was one of the guys we were talking to and we are still talking to a couple more at the moment.

"John was a possibility, providing he could have got rated, but that was a fight I definitely would have wanted."

Warren's comments are in direct contradiction to the message coming out of Murray's Denton camp that he is desperate to take on long-time rival Khan.

Warren regularly makes these sorts of claims, how much credence should we pay them? I was under the impression the WBA were not going to allow a voluntary defence, which suggests any Murray bout would've taken place without the strap. Would team Khan be ready to make this kind of commitment for a fight with Murray?

Does it say anywhere when Warren offered the fight to Murray? I mean Warren could be talking about since Khan has been around the top of the world ratings or before the Prescott fight.

roach and khan said something about a murray fight, and warren rubbished the claims, saying it was always going to be khan-salita.

so i wonder when this opening for a murray fight was supposed to be.

probably after murray-meager when they were asking murray to drop the british title. i think if it was a serious offer, murray and his trainer would have bitten warren's hand off at the chance!

sounds like usual warren bollocks. i recall that haye was ducking maccarinelli.

    1. Be totally ****ing amazing.

    2. Beat a number of former title challengers and a legendary Mexican.

    3. Went with a promoter who can pull **** off and not stick around fighting bums until his 20th fight.

Murray is still fighting shot to **** vets like Johanesson and Thaxton.

Yep it sounds like total shite to be honest or the usual Warren offering a fight that the opponent can not possibly take due to other commitments etc.

also, maybe i'm being paranoid, but i can perhaps see what's being lined up.

once khan has got boring mandatory salita out of the way...cue a defence vs a british fighter...warren to keep it "in house"

meanwhile, coincidentally, alecsh arthur - "my doctor says i can't fight any lower than light welterweight"

khan vs "former world champion/ballooned up in weight" arthur?

only on sky box office for £15

like khan fought a shot and blown up michael gomez, getting hurt and dropped in the process; gomez shortly getting stopped by the huge punching ricky burns, before going unlicenced

at least thaxton's last championship fight (and his last 135-pound fight), was a controversial, narrow defeat, a fight he rightfully would have won via 1 round KO. so he was still clearly dangerous and certainly deserved a british title fight after barely losing his european title fight.

FYI, murray was desperate for the thaxton fight since murray stopped dean hickman for the english title.

thaxton, mcallister, hickman - big lightweights all, each stopped by murray. in fact, former light welterweights. thaxton interestingly actually beat a british and commonwealth champ up at light welter once (non title bout with scrap iron ryan); and mcallister had good form up at light welter (WBU champ); and hickman held a win over mcallister as well as adnan amar, in a spotty career. so you can go on about all these apparent shot fighters that murray faced; but at least he doesn't pick on smaller men from the division below him, as a certain amazing fighter does you could say that murray picks on bigger men, in fact.
