Frank Warren has hit out at the British Boxing Board of Control for allowing Ricky Hatton to keep his promoters licence despite his drug shame. Its alright for me to take cocaine and promote fights or for any promoter to do that, theres no problem, you keep your licence, Warren told Hawksbee and Jacobs. He needs to get himself well and the facts are that hes not running his company, theyre talking about other people running the company who are certainly not licensed under Hatton Promotions. He should be focusing on dealing with his drink problem and his drug problem but the drink problems, as Ive said before, have been there for a number of years. The Board of Control chose to do nothing about it, they continue to licence him in the last couple of years and it was well documented in newspapers that he was drinking a lot. Its a cop out. He didnt even attend the hearing that is ridiculous. How can you have a hearing and the guy who is accused doesnt even attend? What they should have done is suspend him until he finished with his rehab and then called him and dealt with it properly. Its a bad message that is sent out.
Warren does come out with allot of **** but he is completley right. If Dave Coldwell, Spencer Fearon or a small hall promoter got caught doing cocaine they would get a ban. Its one rulle for some... He was able to do interviews with ITV but not show up to the hearing.
Lots of BBBofC cases get dealt with in absence. Whats Hatton supposed to go there and say? "It wasn't me"?
IF Coldwell or Fearon were doing cocaine (which I'm sure they're not), it would not be something that would be splashed across the front pages of the tabloids.
His promoter license was not revoked because I paraphrase, Hatton promotions is an organisation with many people in it who are working for him. He is not the only person affected by the ban and he is not Hatton promotions, alone. I agree that his promoters license should have been kept . Warren is just bitter, and digging a competitor.
Robert Smith even said on Buncey's radio that it isn't even Hatton who does all the main promotional work, he's just a figurehead for the company. Like GBP where Schaefer does the actual work.
yes but it could end up in the Sheffield Star or South London Advertiser and the BBBofC would take action, likley a ban.
They've handed out the punishment they see fit so what has it got to do with Frank Warren? Oh apart from eliminating the competition...
