    from FWs site...

Frank Warren slammed Enzo Maccarinelli's preparation for his fight with Ola Alofabi which he lost by ninth round stoppage.
Maccarinelli was fighting for the interim version of the WBO title he previously held against his London-born Nigerian opponent.
Although he was ahead on points going into the ninth round, Maccarinelli had been wobbled in the early stages and was looking tired by the mid-point in the fight.
Afterwards the Swansea fighter said that he did no sparring ahead of the bout, something which left Warren furious.
"Enzo will kick himself and I'll kick him as well, because what I'm hearing after the fight I don't even know what he's doing in there," Warren said.
"It's no good looking for excuses after the fight.
"He said he didn't have one round of sparring. Not one single round. The court case is going on with Joe Calzaghe and myself and his dad (Maccarinelli's trainer Enzo) was in court every day so obviously wasn't with him.
"Thats a problem for him and something he's got to come back and overcome it.
"It will be tough for him to come back but he's got to show he's a man and do it."

No question. I Enzo isn't there to train him (for whatever reason,) he needs to get someone who is.

What kind of fighter going for a title doesn't do any sparring? ****ing idiot. Sounds to me like he underestimated Afolabi.

Not sparring at all for an interim title fight is shocking.

Where does Macca stand now? If Joe has retired, he has lost his main sparring partner who I think is also the biggest guy in camp.

Why is Pryce not sparring with Enzo?!

It's certainly gone pretty damn pear-shaped down there.

On the one hand it's not surprising if Enzo didn't consider Afolabi a threat, since Ola's not well known.

On the other hand, not very professional there and especially for an interim title fight.
When you start acting like you're owed something, problems can crop up.

He showed be shown some sympathy for this not slagged off.

He is a professional boxer - he got to earn a living - he has been inactive and frustrated since being knocked out in March 2008.

He only had the Matthew Ellis fight and that was nothing.

He wanted to get back in the ring, earn money, everyone needs to make a living, get the win, and get his career back on track.

He took a chance with no sparring and it back fired.

But even in hindsight he did the right thing fighting - he got to make a living -

We know Calzaghe camp are a bunch of amateurs

But we now know that Enzo Maccarenelli is a neglected fighter

His trainer didnt give a **** about his preparation, his promoter has ****ed him around for the last year

Everyone around him has let him down

He tried to get in the best shape he could doing training away from Calzaghe camp with his mate in ESCAPE nightclub he was trying hard to get in shape but his training was neglected

Basically Enzo was winning the fight - then he got ****ing knackered - and got taken out

We know from Enzo previous fights - he had good stamina and fitness - so something shows his preparation was wrong for this fight

He would probaly beat that guy lifting beer kegs

But in the ring the difference in boxing condition showed and Maccarenelli did not have the right training (sparring) behind him and was found wanting

Why should he be shown sympathy?

Many boxers have been in his position and they still sparred. It's basic. And if his camp was **** and his trainer wasn't there then he needs to pull his finger out and find someone else to train him.

There are plenty of decent trainers and gyms about with plenty of bodies to spar with. It's not as if he's a pauper. He has the money to travel to London or Manchester or Liverpool. His training, his problem.

well I dont mean get the violin out and start playing a symptahy tune

just a bit of understanding that he was trying hard to get in shape with the resources he had and he wanted to get in the ring and fight and get his career back on track

but his promoter has ****ed him around for ages

and his trainer has not given a **** about him - and let him go into a important fighter negelcted

I agree - the lack of sparring is his own fault - surely he must realise camp calzaghe can offer him nothing in sparring terms

if he wants to come back - he needs to go down to london where I'm sure there are plenty of heavies / crusiers willing to spar with him and he should train down there for weeks before a fight and get good sparring with good strong heavies

Pryce? The best Calzaghe can do is to get Pryce to spar with Enzo? Thats a joke. If Enzo didnt spar thats he's own fault. He thought he was being gifted a gimme. It was apparent from as early as the first round that Enzo had not done he's homework and couldnt figure Olu out in the slightest. He ****ed up. He has no one else to blame but himself. Enzo's way is the wrong way. Last night was justice in that Enzo Calzaghe was massively exposed as an incompetent trainer and a charlatan. Its more frightening to think what Joe could have achieved if he had a half decent trainer with marbles instead of some delinquent Sardinian with a god complex.
