According to the scene setter, Frankie is suing Joe for £1m - apparently Joe is in breach of contract, having promised the Sports Network chief promotional rights to his next fight(s). Sounds like a load of hot air to me - unless he has actually signed a document with witnesses it don't mean **** all. I remember him suing Hatton for breaking a verbal agreement - probably the same here. He is one bitter **** - he ought to be grateful Joe stayed with him and paid as much homage to the fabled WBO strap as he did, because you would wager that Frank made a **** load of cash out of it all.
Warren is a *****, he rants rubbish about every fighter in Britain who he isn't involved with meantime his fighters are involved in shockingly one sided fights and terribly boring shows. Then ontop of it he constantly has lawyers sueing people, he'll probably try and sue me for slander next.
warren should be thanking joe staying with for that long! FFS why start suing someone who gave u so much loyality etc, let joe make his money!!
verbal agreements - - what are they worth - nothing - if Calzaghe was going to stay with him for another fight then why didnt he sign something. Verbal agreements don't mean ****
Actually a verbal agreement is legally as valid as a written agreement. The sticking point however is proving the verbal agreement was made.
This is all rather reminiscent of another high profile fighter who left him. Frank is bitter, the only fighter he has left who has any hope of bringing him the big money he desires is Khan and we all know the jury is still well & truly out on him. I think this is karma for his "golden goose" approach to promoting. Maybe if he'd spent less time protecting certain fighters & feeding the public alphabet nonsense, he wouldn't be so reliant on the money generated by one specific fighter.
I can understand people not liking Warren for certain things but you cannot critasice him for this. In my opinion here its Joe who is in the wrong. Its obvious there was an agreement in place for Calzaghe to fight on under Sports Network, if Joe is not going to honour this agreement then he will get sued, simple as that. He would have won the case agaisnt Hatton, and he will do the same against Joe, because its Calzaghe who is in the wrong. anyone slagging of warren for this needs to take there blinkers of and get a reailty check.
Why is it not possible for people to have differing opinions without being told they are "blind" or "need a reality check"? We're all adults on here, lets discuss things as such. Anyway, why is it "obvious there was an agreement in place"?
So true... I've never found any of his shows particuarly enjoyable. Most of time your just sat there watching some ABA lad 15-0 (2ko's) hammering some journeyman to a 4 round points defeat. Boring as hell- needs to take a leaf out of Steve Woods book. All the fights are well matched, even Frank Maloney knows how to entetain the 'real' fans. Its a winning formular for Sports Network but it turns the real fans off because we know what we're watching and it turns the armchair fan off coz 14 fights of that nature is enough to put the most stubborn insomniac to sleep Julian Jackson style. I'd rather watch 3 decent matches for £40 quid then the hours of mismatxches that they put us through.
If there was a written agreement, then fine - by all means sue Calzaghe. If that was the case, Joe should have entered into negotiations with Warren in order to terminate their contract. If there was only a verbal agreement, as Jim Royle would say 'my arse'. Does he have this conversation on tape? The only thing he would have in his favour would be Calzaghe's statement after the Hopkins fight..... 'I am going to sit down with my partner (don't remember name) and my father, and my promoter Frank Warren....... ' If that counts as a contract then I must be contracted to bloody allsorts - killing Peter Ridsdale, shagging Rachel Stevens and buying a doner meat pizza at 3am from Posh Nosh on a Saturday evening.
I blame Frank Warren for the rise of the minor alphabet. The way he got away with putting shows like that on Sky for so long was disgraceful. Anthony Farnell, world champion.
Warren is a wanker and ***** and should just leave the sport nad british boxing would be far better than now.
