Rees is ready for Hatton - Warren

Rees celebrates his world title with trainer Enzo Calzaghe

Promoter Frank Warren says there is no reason why light welterweight champion Gavin Rees could not meet Ricky Hatton.
"Why shouldn't it happen?" said Warren. "Gavin's undefeated, he was highly ranked before his out-of-the-ring problems, now he's back with a title.
"Gavin has a mandatory defence against Andreas Kotelnik, but before that we hope to get him a voluntary defence on Joe Calzaghe's 3 November undercard."
Rees, 27, won the WBA title from Souleymane M'Baye on Saturday.
That took the Enzo Calzaghe-trained Newbridge man's record to 27-0 (13 KOs).
But Rees himself feels that a Hatton contest is beyond his reach for the time being, with WBC champion Junior Witter perhaps a more realistic target.
"Hatton would be a dream fight, but I know I'm not a big enough name for him," said Rees.

"He's in the States having big-money fights, so good luck to him.
"I'm just looking forward to defending my title and I'm prepared to fight anyone in the world."
Warren, who warned Rees about his discipline ahead of the M'Baye fight, was full of praise for the Welshman afterwards.
"I knew he had the work-rate and desire, and he did what he should have done," Warren told BBC Sport Wales. "It was his big chance and he went out and grabbed it with both hands, he totally hussled M'Baye out of it and that fight will bring Gavin on a bundle."

    Astounding from Warren.

however, fair play to Rees realising that he's not a big enough name. seems like a decent bloke these days.

I'd like to see him fight Witter. Witter would win, but Rees' workrate would get him for a few rounds - and show why Hatton-witter is pointless (hatton would EASILY outwork Witter) when the Hitman has much bigger fights out there.

rees should think about lightweight or superfeather. There is no way he can survive lww at that height.

Hatton-Rees would be ridiculous, Hatton would stop him inside a few rounds. No chance that Hatton takes this fight.

Warren never fails to amaze me with the crap he comes out with. Whats worse is he gets his fighters believing it too.

Why should Witter even take the fight?

Hmmm, Witter needs all that he can do entice Hatton into a fight. I don't believe it would ever happen, but a win over Harris and then unification (he'd probably be awarded 'super' Wba status, giving him 18 months to defend), and it might look tastier for Hatton.

Would the WBA allow another voluntary defence of their title??

Hatton beats Rees easy its not even a contest and i doubt Hatton would be interested. Rees is a light weight and Hatton is a huge light welterweight. Style wise, size wise, experience wise, whatever way you look at it, all you can see is Rees getting knocked out!

Rees will have his hands full with Kotelnik!
