Theophane camp: No Gavin fight

Light welterweight Ashley Theophane (29-4-1, 7 KOs) is fresh off his points win over Lenny Daws (21-2-2, 9 KOs) this past Saturday where he lifted the British title. Upon reading the recent comments on Fightnews by unbeaten Frankie Gavin (9-0, 8 KOs), a brief statement was released by Theophane’s management. “Frankie Gavin is definitely a very skilled fighter and comes with a lot of credentials from his highly decorated amateur career. However, he and Ashley are at different stages of their careers right now. Where Gavin is a promising prospect, Theophane is a legitimate world ranked contender. Our company’s immediate goals are set on a world title fight or a fight that will set up a world title fight. At this stage, Frankie Gavin is not in our immediate plans but we want to wish him the very best.”

 

In all fairness if Theophane has the possibility of a world title eliminator then it might be worth holding out for it

 

He's right to want none of Gavin at this stage. It's perfectly understandable, frustrating for Gavin and us boxing fans but that's the nature of the business.

 

I think buncey said while he was commentating that if he was to win the title... he wouldn't defend it.. but vacate

 

Surely Frankie will get to fight for the vacante title if Theopane does drops it

 

IBO title eliminator in the works!

 

Gavin should Fight Ajose.

 

The one possible problem I could see with this is Ajose having to fight.
