On Mick Hennessy I think hes done a reasonably good job with Carl Froch. probably the only one that does.
He knows his **** and he gets things done, fair enough But he is risk averse with his big earners, often to the fighters detriment. That's the major complaint from me. And he hits below the belt when the deals come to an end and the fighter wants to leave. I agree with him on the trend for fighters to want to become promoters though. What DO they know? If it was that easy to do Warren wouldn't have dominated for so long.
warren thought it was a disgrace to make Audley Harrison 4 rounders main event but least it was on BBC for free Warren is a disgrace for making a mediorce card pay per view
Pfft...... Not sure where I stand on that really flint, it was the stupidity of the BBC that are at least partly to blame. I think fighters can become promoters, but Warren seems to have a sixth sense with regard his fighters abilities - trouble is, when he gets it wrong he is exposed much bigger, because he has either stuck them in ridiculously or held them back far too long.
The Beeb were mugs with that Audley deal, it was supposed to be their way back into boxing. They paid 1 million quid to get his first 10 fights and then seemed surprised when the level of opposition didn't improve at the rate they'd hoped. What the hell did they expect? A fight with Lennox for fight number 8?
It wouldn't surprise me at all. Surely they knew that any fighter goes in with bums for at least 8/10 fights, and are at the bottom of the card generally. I think part of the reason was because he was a heavy - if he had been a middle or a feather they wouldn't have given a ****. Good contest, Lennox vs Audley though - for about half of the first round until Lennox caught up with him. Then it would be all over :deal
Audley was huge news after that Gold, to be fair. A load of folk I knew went to his first fight (they know / knew jack and had no interest in the game) but great things were expected. Still, the £1m for the first ten fights was always naive. I remember Lennox's early fights on ITV (I think), they were similarly bad. First off they aren't competitive and secondly the public expect the star man to shine, but they are usually sloppy and almost by definition amateurish. As Flint said though, Warren has a bit of a cheek criticising Audley when he's just made this Khan PPV. That was my reaction too...
Lennox fights may have been bad, but he had 10 of them in a year, audley has 2 a year liek he was champ already. and i seriously doubt frank is telling the truth when he says he bought haye vs mormeck for setanta!
lennox looked good early on. :bbb for me only 2 poor performances. against an american/irish fighter called dan murphy in sheffield. and at the albert hall against ossie occasio.
