I'm sorry but you don't win a fight by just being awkward and clinching, Warrington was the close but clear winner.
You shouldn't win a fight by hitting fresh air all night just because it's on your promoter's show in your hometown.
Spot on - as much as the commentary seemed to love KD’s defensive tactics, you don’t win fights by tieing your opponent up at every opportunity. KD didn’t throw a meaningful punch in the last round, yet listening to the commentator you’d think it was a KD masterclass.
As they did watch with commentary and therefore follow that view. I think the commentators and social media are forgetting that Warrington was the champion, therefore the 50/50 rounds should be given to him if there is nothing in it. Especially as he had the more aggressive style - Galahad should have been docked a point too for multiple holding.
I think at best you can say as Galahad was the away fighter he should have known he would need to win the rounds more convincingly. Getting a decision in Leeds on a Warren card was never going to be easy however Galahad won that fight for me. FTR I wanted Warrington to win but bet on KG as I thought 7/2 was good odds.
‘Awkward’ or outwitting his opponent with his footwork and change of stances to not only make his opponent miss and slow his tempo but nullify his ability to close the distance down effectively? In the meantime, landing his own clean, hard shots. Galahad inspires very emotive debate on here through him being BJS’s little side kick on them stupid videos, being a drugs cheat and generally being very unlikeable, unpopular and an awful ticket seller....but in that ring, none of this should matter. I’m not going to say anymore on it now, it is what it is. It’s the result I wanted, just not how I wanted it.
I didn’t attempt to score the fight round by round because I was struggling to stay awake before it. Having had next to no sleep in last 4 days my brain couldn’t have handled it. After a few rounds I was thinking about how hard it would be to score. Galahad definitely took everything good about Warrington away from him and made him look stupid but he didn’t throw enough to establish any dominance at any stage. I’m quality over quantity person and Galahad certainly landed the better shots. Galahad made Warrington look like a raw novice swinging and missing wildly and then not allowing him to work in close, that is down to great ring iq. Is this enough to give someone the decision? One things for sure, I’ve never seen this forum have so many people on total opposite sides of the fence about a result before. I’d have to watch again and score it properly if I was going to say my winner but I doubt I’ll do that as that fight was bad. Even for the ‘pursists’ really bad!
As mentioned , it was simply just one of those fights - you could watch it back over and over and people would have different opinions. 116-112 was silly that’s the only problem. Galahad offered nothing in offence but was very awkward and Warrington despite his work rate was missing wildly. Depends on what you liked seeing as a judge.
Interesting fight, not necessarily a good one. I called it a draw thanks to Warrington scoring the late rounds . Score it a draw or either way close and can't really complain
Had warrington winning it. Galahad fought well. Really frustrating night for josh but not enough from galahad to get the win imo. Galahads a frustrating watch tbh. Hes a skilled operator but offensively doesnt really do enough. Not much pop either. At the same time hes a good fighter...defensively very good. But seemed to lack the heart to really want it. Maybe its just the style that makes him look that way...but wasnt all that far away from winning the title. Think it was fair warrington winning it tho...thought he won it by two or three pounts tbh. Not a night to remember for him mainly due to galahad being hard to hit but he still done enough to take it with workrate etc. Galahad just didnt do enough for me. Frustrating cause he probably could have won it....think he,ll always fall just short at that level tho. But who knows. Positives to take for him from it tonight.
Lots of people here who said this was a mismatch with egg on their face. Was always going to be a very awkward style for Warrington to get to grips with in just 12 rounds.
Get what you are saying and I know you know your stuff. You have to admit that his lack of activity at times could be to his detriment
Sounds like a close, and not to mention frustrating fight to watch. I’m surprised Warrington struggled that much with his style as he beat him twice in the amateurs and they must have sparred together since turning pro.
