P4p list from 1999. https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine's_Annual_Ratings:_1999 Pound For Pound Roy Jones Jr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Felix Trinidad Oscar De La Hoya Shane Mosley Mark Johnson Ricardo Lopez Erik Morales Bernard Hopkins Stevie Johnston Just wow... two of the best fighters ever at the peak of their powers (Roy and Floyd). Two of the best welterweights ever (Tito and Oscar), Mosley the monster at 135, Lopez the best straweight ever, Morales one of the best super bantam ever, and Hopkins a top 3 Middleweight of all time.
No, in the seventies you had fighters like : Duran Arguello Zarate Foreman Gomez Ali Frazier Monzon Bob Foster Cervantes etc, etc,
Back when a P4P list actually meant something. Nowadays... "Blah blah unified two belts, is he top 5?"
Early 90's was stronger IMO - Whitaker, Chavez, Toney, Norris, M. Taylor, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Nunn, Nelson, Galaxy
That's a lot of juice right there .. & Boxing is much more international these days with greater competition depth than in 99 when boxing was very US centric still.
They are two of the best fighters ever objectively speaking. There's no argument to the contrary unless you use different criteria to judge the fighters you prefer. I'd actually love to hear your argument as to why Roy Jones Jr one of 3 middle weights in the 200 year history of boxing to win a heavyweight title isn't one of the best ever
I was just 2 at the time, what a list! Donald Curry was awesome at his best. Casuals don't no who he is, but the guy was a fantastic fighter at the peak of his powers My father is a major boxing fan and he was born in 54. He loved Ali and the heavyweights in the 70s, but nothing touches the 80s 86 was a quality year for sure man
