Was Alan Minter a decent fighter

My memory agrees with this? But it has been quite a few years and I used to be quite biased towards Minter for some reason that could contribute to my memory...need to see if I can dig this one up

I may be wrong because I’ve never saw the fight since.
My recollection was that the first 5 rounds Minter’s better boxing had him on top and I think he hurt Hamsho quite badly in I think the 5th.
Hamsho came on stronger the second half, but mainly by turning it into a wrestling match.
I just thought Minter did enough.

Well, I will try and give a recent take on it later tonight. I have not watched a Minter fight for a year or 3, when I revisited the 2 Antuofermo fights...but they are distant memory for me as well at my age lol

Thanks for posting that have just watched it and it’s strange what your memory can do, but Hamsho won that!
He had more success in the first half of the fight than I recall.
The second half of the fight Minter became embroiled in Hamsho’s kind of fight.
It was a gruelling affair but Hamsho won in my belated opinion!

I can’t tell you how many fights I have rewatched/scored years later only to see my memory and nostalgia come crumbling down....here is hoping that I disagree with you on a rewatch lol. But I will chime in later

Yes, unfortunately my memory has misguided me yet again. I got Hamsho 7-3 the same as 2 judges. If I tried to be generous I could find 2 close rounds to give to a Minter, but not sure how Roth has it 6-4 minter, I can only find 5 if you favor the jab, accuracy and precision of Minter over the bullrush and heavier blows of Hamsho. In hindsight I am glad Hamsho got the decision! IMO he deserved this one. Oh well

One of my favourite British fighters . Won at all levels then met Hagler , but no disgrace there .

He absolutely beat Hamsho and is therefore better than anyone Hamsho beat.

Even if this were true, and I haven't watched the fight for years,it wouldn't put his status above very good .imo

If you had one to only use one word to describe Hagler/Minter, surely disgrace would be top?!

He had a period of a being a world class fighter, and has a nice story in that he dragged himself back, after a very decent amateur career, to that of seemingly an area level British fighter, to World Middleweight Champion.

But I will concede a bias: I knew people who lived near him during his battles with demons, and obviously they had their issues with him, he was a neighbour from hell.

His old Dad wasn't exactly Benedict Cumberbatch either!

I did have a couple of nights out, with a group that included his Dad, he seemed nice enough. But I have heard rumours...
