I know this might be blasphemy to some but....his fights with Aaron Pryor, Boom Boom Mancini and everything from Lightweight up and the two Escalera wars aside, I think some of his fights are actually boring.

Right now Im trying to get through the Jim Watt contest. Leonard-Duran I it was not. The Arturo Leon fight was better than Xanax to put one to sleep as well.

He was a master counter puncher but sometimes I feel he was slow in awaiting for that opening.

    What do you think?

He was methodical. He was a patient artist who started slowly and accelerated later as he worked his man out. In short he gathered information in the early rounds and took advantage of it as the fight wore on. A true long range specialist.

I think he was terrific fighter and one of the most correct punchers I ever saw, his right hand was like Joe Louis'.I never found him boring.

I don't think anyone can deny this - it's partly why he blew a non-title fight to Vilomar Fernandez while squarely at his peak - but the key word there is "sometimes." If you were to pick any random Arguello fight out of a hat, you're far more likely to get an exciting or dramatic one than a "boring" one.

I’d say no way. To me, he’s one of the best fighters to watch in history. He threw some of the most beautiful punches ever seen.

First time I've heard someone consider Arguello as "boring". I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

Arguello isn't someone that starts fast or just brawls because he wants to. He was a slow starter that took his time to break down his opponents with accurate hard counters and body shots. He starts to pick up the tempo as the fight goes on and will go for the kill when he needs to, especially when he starts to sense his opponents are slowing down or ready to get taken out. But it also comes down to the fighters he's facing as well. You're not going to expect every Arguello fight to be overly exciting or dramatic but you can still appreciate the boxing mastery that he shows in the ring. He does have slow footwork and can be too patient from time to time but when he unleashes his offense he's incredible.

Personally he's one of the most beautiful fighters to watch. A very classy boxer who throws punches with precision. His explosive power, boxing IQ, and having the heart of a lion makes him far from a boring fighter.

No and I don't see how you can claim that either it's bit of a strange opinion.

He was in some of most action packed fights of all time Ganigan, Olivares, Escalera 1 and 2, Mancini, Pryor 1 and 2.

Not to mention having many highlight reel KOs.

Sometimes Arguello had issues with movers or tricky boxers and it took him awhile to get going in some fights. But I don't think you could ever associate Arguello with the word boring.

He had a beautiful style to watch aggressive but patient with his offense. Fantastic technique with his punches and a genuine ATG puncher.

Brilliant fighter, real warrior with amazing power.

True 15 round fighter who dismantled nearly all his foes.

Dynamite Puncher mentioned some of his best fights but you can add Billy Costello, Jose Luis Ramirez, James Busceme, Roberto Elizondo, Diego Alcala (brutal), Salvador Torres, Bazooka Limon and Rigoberto Riasco.

I think you hit the nail on the head to some degree here: the Explosive Thin Man was a true 15-round fighter.

We’re so far into the 12-round title fight days that people forget (or weren’t around to appreciate) that 11-15 were the championship rounds. For a fighter like Arguello, the first 10 were just to set a runway for the finish — finding the ring, figuring the right tactics, breaking the guy down to the body, etc.

Most 15-rounders were fought at a more deliberate pace than today’s 12-round ‘sprint’ title fights. Because you’d better have something left in the tank when those final three rounds came along or you wheren’t going to make it. Especially against a guy like Arguello who would really start putting on the punching pressure and sitting down on his hard shots during that stretch run.

It separated the men from the boys, the main-event fighters from the CHAMPIONSHIP main event fighters.

That’s why I think some of Arguello’s 10-round fights aren’t quite as exciting, especially depending on the opposition. Because he had a 15-round gear and not so much a 10-round gear. He didn’t start faster in a 10 than he would a 15.

(I will note that the first Pryor fight, Aaron came out like a bolt of lightning as usual and Alexis rose to that pace and matched it with fierce firepower. So he was capable of a faster start, but you probably had to force it on him.)

He was sublime to watch, technically almost perfect and real poetic in his economy of motion and deliberate, intentional plan to break down the opponent.

You could look good against him for 10 rounds and think you’re in his league and then you hit 11-15 and find out you were shouldn’t even be allowed to walk down a street in his neighborhood.

I’ve never, ever thought of him as boring @AntonioMartin1 but I do understand where you’re coming from.

It's all opinion, no one's the same. I understand where OP's coming from. His fight with Andy Ganigan was pretty entertaining
