Ali had 22 title fight wins, against far better competition, after being forced out of boxing for almost 3yrs. His prime yrs.

Ali defended the title against as many "bums" as Louis did.

I'd put any of the "bums"s Ali fought against any bums Louis fought and Ali bums would probably go undefeated against Louis's bums.

Buster Douglas on that night was a helluva fighter, he was fighting for something dear to him. Would've been a very hard man to beat for anyone that night

This is the simple truth. Buster had a ton of talent. He had the tools to be a great heavyweight. Don't even need to list them. It was obvious

Ali could be the exception, but people of their respective eras would've thought it laughable at the time if you'd suggested the star of their era's ATG's would fade, too. Plenty of kids and young people don't even know names like Dempsey or Louis. The further away you get from the era, the easier it is for people to just not know. Not that I think Ali'll ever become a nobody or anything. But his stock really has nowhere to go BUT down, and no boxer thus far has been immune to it.

Frazier and Foreman were not the best of their own era. This would suggest they are not ATGs or at the very least they rate below guys like Jeffries, Lewis, etc who dominated in their own time. There have been a lot of guys since them that would help push them out of the top 10 like Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko. Frazier's devastating defeats to Foreman certainly make it difficult to make a good case for his greatness.

Also, I don't find the argument as to the superiority of Ali's competition very compelling. Aside from Ali who did Frazier beat that would be favored over someone like Walcott? Foreman has a very thin resume and was nearly knocked out by Ron Lyle. If someone like Lyle can nearly take Foreman out and someone like Jimmy Young can actually beat him in his prime than it seems pretty ridiculous to say Louis's foes wouldn't have a chance.
