I wish we'd seen Mayweather v Khan. Not because I think Khan would have won, No. But I do think he'd have had his surprising moments.
Of course he was a 'real' contender. Guess what, he was a 'real' titlist as well with some 'real' wins over top boxers.
Boxing at the highest level, he got found out. No shame in that. A consistently entertaining fighter, rather than a consistently successful one. Boxing is richer for having him in it's pro ranks, however, his frustrating, even arrogant tactics and shameful ducking of Brook will continue to wrangle me after he has hung them up. To demand people's ethnicity in the vote is too crass and backward for me to participate btw.
He was too easy to hit when he was throwing a lot of shots and didn`t have the chin to fight that way, he was like Meldrick Taylor.
Hes turned into a stable titlist, what you would call a natural world champ, but he has yet to overtake khans resume at the same age.
Khan's problem, perhaps after Prescott, but certainly after Garcia, is that every heavyhanded 140-147 this side of the solar system fancied their chances of landing that big shot, and because of Khan's style, a lot of them would stand a good chance of succeeding. Khan therefore became one of those entertaining high risk commodities, rather than a real elite boxer. There's certain near-elite boxers he could embarrass; but conversely there's guys ranked 40 in the world who'd pose a serious risk if they landed on him. This makes him an entertaining product whose real value is hard to gage accurately.
