Was anyone else shocked that Broner got the decision?

I thought Ponce De Leon won, yeah, but I shouldn't be overly surprised Broner got the nod. Judges have a hard on for supposed gobby, 'slick', young, black American fighters so it shouldn't come as a complete surprise. Bad scoring though, I think.

 

When the scores were read I was thinking "At least De Leon isn't getting robbed of a decision, but 99-91 is a bit wide" because after the final bell I feared they might let Broner get away with a draw. Then I was really shocked when Broner's name was called out!

 

Broner would have been lucky with a draw!! We can say that Floyd can win fights with "crisp, accurate" shots, but clearly Ponce was hitting him with body shots. The problem was the perception of the fight. Ponce kept bouncing back out of range, looking like he had to reset all the time. He was doing better walking into Broner and just letting his hands go. Ponce does not cut off the ring well at all and his punches are too wild. But Broner was not active enough. The decision was definitely political. Bad fight stylistically.

 

Surprised that Broner won? No, you can make the case. Disappointed that he won? Yes since I thought PDL won it. Disgusted by 99-91? Absolutely.

 

The problem was perception, but it was definitely a political decision? Huh?

The problem was GBP.

 

Broner winning was tolerable, A draw is ok. Ponce winning after watching is what I expected to be honest but that 99-91 score is just pure bs.

 

I thought the younger, bigger, faster fighter with the slick style would take control of the fight, but everytime deleon came forward with the bodyshots he was in control. Broner a good boxer, but even tho he got the decision tonight, I dont think he beat the smaller, slower ponce deleon. A draw is what I believe I saw. I was surprised to see deleon fight this high in weight. He should stay 122-126 his power and timing more effective there. Wouldnt mind a rematch with broner either.

 

Broner was more accurate with is punches throughout the fighter, I can see him getting the decision 96-94, but 99-91 was atrocious, some judges should have their licenses revoked. Did De leon deserve the win, not really sure if he did, close fight

 

Broner won many of you were listening to the crowd 96 -94 was the correct score.

 

That fight could go either way. A draw would have been better. It was a tight fight.
The one card showed what the deal was though. The deck was set. 99-91? What fight did that guy watch? PDL was EASILY winning after 5.

Although I like his attributes, I really dislike AB style. I say this being a big fan of technical Boxers. Nothing wrong with using your feet, but you have to have some offense. If you are going to be full D? Show me some "slickness" while "in the kitchen". Play with matches! How can you be bigger than the guy AND not willing to catch him/make him pay? Guys are taking all the WRONG things away from watching Mayweather/Whittaker.

 

I made that point in the RBR, and mentioned Mayweather and Whitaker, actually. Young fighters see them take it easy and make guys look foolish but they're actually doing things when it seems like they're not. You get so many young fighters who do nothing in there for minutes on end and act like they're putting on a virtuoso performance but in reality, they're doing **** all. When Mayweather and Whitaker weren't throwing shots, they were still controlling the fight which is what made them great. These young fighters copy it and it just doesn't work.

Far too much trying to look good, instead of actually doing it. All the moments Broner wasted acting like he's a great fighter would have been better served if he was trying to land shots. He had the gameplan of a great fighter and he simply isn't. He'll have to work harder than that because for less talented fighters, as he is, it doesn't come as easy, as it did for Mayweather and Whitaker.

 

The flashy black prospect getting the nod in a close fight that he didn't deserve doesn't surprise me... this is boxing afterall. It just dissapointed me.

The tell tale sign of where these guys really stand is when they decide to be active... What do they do? They are stuck square, flat footed, and winging away with an (allegedly) lesser skilled Boxer! Where is all the fancy BS that had you on your back foot 3 feet out of punching range? Shoulder rolling into a southpaw? When his corner told him he was screwed he had ZERO answers.

I really hope he is able to take something away from this GIFT (though I would accept it if that one card wasn't so off). I like the guys physical attributes, but wow... talk about all style and not very much substance. He has that "tv dinner" style. When it pops out of the microwave it is NOT what the picture showed on the box!

A bigger guy same skill level (which was good in Ponce De Leon's case) with a "motor" would have mowed him like a putting green.
