On a serious note, even slimming down as much as he did (if you can even call it that when the end result is still anything but slim) I think was beneficial last night from a strategic viewpoint.

Think about it. Yes, he suffered the broken nose with Stiverne - but there was also sustained body punching from Bermane, and you could see the chunky cholo was huffing and puffing not too far into the contest.

Mitchell tried going to Arreola's body early on, in the first minute, bending over and dropping in jabs and rights to his gut. He was stabbing them in with some authority, so in lesser shape it may have been enough to slow Arreola down and perhaps even prevent the offensive explosion that befell Mitchell in the second half of the round... :think

It could have fallen into a pattern where, even though Arreola is more aggressive than natural counter-puncher Banks, it resembles Mitchell vs. Banks II a bit with Mitchell eluding the gassed Arreola tapping him safely from outside with jabs while Arreola sucked wind and plodded and never got his offense going...

Not certain it would have panned out that way, but maybe. Just saying.

Bottom line, it definitely isn't a bad thing Arreola sloughed off at least that much of his excess bulk.

Where the hell was the offensive explosion? I saw a club fighter getting caught with the same 1-1-2 over and over. Seth is unable to stop even the most basic combo's. And flush shots are his kryptonite.

Arreola is in the best shape of his career. His team wouldn't let him out of Scottsdale, Arizona while in training. Arreola is never going to look like a "Tye Fields" but if those two fought, Fields gets dropped in round one...

I want to see Arreola vs. Fields!

...or Wilder vs. Fields...or Mitchell vs. Fields...or Mitchell vs. Wilder...

Toss all these mediocre no-hope pretenders into some kind of tournament on national broadcast network TV, either NBC or CBS. It would be good for the sport.

Before he took his first lost, they were building him up as the next could be great HW. They would praise how he played football got hurt n turned to boxing late. Praise how good he was for starting boxing so late and made Sergio Martinez comparisons on how rare it was for a guy to start late and be so Successful. This was all hbo before GB and hbo parted ways. At the time hbo was pushing him hard, it's what they do. Find a guy to get behind and give him the major push, hype him beyond his true limits and hope he's the one.
