MW. He was best in the late mid-late 90s but couldn't get anyone to fight him. Joppy and Holmes ducked him for years, or rather King prevented them from fighting him. He was faster, more active, and hit harder then. As he aged he became more conservative and start very slow and pick up momentum as the rounds went on which led to some boring performances. When he got really old he was more of a spoiler, slowing the fight down to his level and stealing rounds with flashy combinations or eye catching counters/leads.

Loads of people like to throw that claim around but the facts don't support this claim.

He weighted just 4lbs above the light heavy limit in his last 2 fights and he had to bulk up to get to light heavy in the first place, which is why he hired Shilstone, if he had been a natural light heavy he wouldn't have paid for his services and he'd just run less and eaten more and naturally go up in weight.

He weighed as low as 156lbs as a middleweight, guys too big for a division don't drain that far below the weight limit. Do you know any other light heavies that could drop 19lbs below light heavy which means someone like Tarver who walked around 200lbs would need to drop 44lbs. Simply not possible no matter how good your diet is or how much you run. Dawson a former super middle dropping back down to 168lbs was ruined by Ward, how on earth did Hopkins drain himself for so long and yet it not ruin him like Dawson or RJJ or Byrd or De La Hoya when they dropped down in weight. In fact Hopkins had the greatest longevity of any fighter and he supposedly did it all while horribly weight drained, is Hopkins a freak of nature or was it a simple case he was always fighting close to his best weight when at middleweight.

He often weighted in the mid 160's as a middleweight and the heaviest he ever stepped into the ring as a middleweight was 168lbs against Taylor.

Now Hopkins training regime and discipline is legendary but at best he was a big super middle, he was never a real light heavy.

His pro debut was at 177 pounds . between 1988 And december of 1992 he could not make the 160 limit. He was obviously a natural lhw

He was better at middleweight, mostly because he was younger and he was relatively taller for the division.

Overall, he was a greater MW.

But his best wins came at LHW.

And it was his wins above MW that contribute most to his ATG standing.

obviously mw, at lhw he was 40something and achieved bare minimum title wins against weakened titlists. he was quite beatable in his 40s by anyone with enough gas.

More agenda-driven keyboard fapping Herol ?

Bhop's best wins came in his forties, and north of 160.

Tarver, Pavlik, Winky and Pascal .

Yeah, well put....I always felt his legacy was 160 and everything at 175 was icing on the cake...

But outside of Trinidad and ODH all his big fights were 175

He made 156 for dlh when he was 40 and 157 for trinidad when he was 36. By todays standards he was a mw. He even offered to get down to 155 or 154 for vargas and reid when they were on top.

What do you mean he could not make the weight? You think he suddenly grew a hollow leg or something? Lol.
