    Was he a close second ?

    Was he perhaps first ?

    The whole Jewish changing name scenario is quite interesting to me.

    Easily the best. That record of his is phenominal. You could make a case for Ross, Maxie Rosenbloom or Abe Attell being second.

    My next thread is going to be about Stillmans and more importantly, the trainers and cutsmen.

    I look forward to some great insight.

    Of course theres Fried's book and Dundee's which i have to admit i have slightly gone off as it has reached the point that he has Ali under his wing and well.....it just seems to have taken a different direction......but i will continue with it of course.


    Apologies if these threads have been done before as i expect at some stage they have but it aint easy finding them amidst the fantasty matchup threads.

    Solly Krieger was another tough Jewish belter. As was Georgie Abrams. Both middleweights and both among the best of their time, which was pretty stacked all around.

    Many consider world champion Benny Bass to be an all-time great. They get no argument from me.

    Mushy Callahan was Jewish.

    I don't but I'll say it. Ranking Ross above Leonard is not at all crazy. He's a close second to me.

    Ross and Leonard are arguably both Top 10 all-time. Leonard with certainty.

    There is a debate if Greb was Jewish. Tunney who was well read said so many times. Greb is in the Jewish Hall of fame.

    Other names not mentioned here. If you go far back, guys like Dutch Sam, and Mendoza were also Jewish.

    I don't like to divide fighters up by religion or race or ethnicity or whatever, but I think Benny Leonard and Abe Attell could both be argued as the greatest fighter of all-time no qualifiers needed.

    i'd rate Barney Ross somewhere behind Attell and Leonard.
    but he was obviously a great fighter in his own right.

    Benny was,without doubt,the best Jewish fighter who ever lived. One of the best ever,pound for pound,period.
