I know he is a phenomenal boxer. At 49 he is still dominating and is so impressive. Also I know he doesn't need the money and Boxing because he still loves it. Plus he was the first guy to TKO Trinidad. So, was he ever the guy in terms of a PPV draw? I mean was he on Roy Jones level or Mayweather's level in terms of PPV buys and such? I'm still kinda new to Boxing so idk.
I will say this though he could make a crowd boo him. Just like the Trinidad fight he was suppose to be pro USA, but still got booed. I know Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, but still it's crazy that Hopkins got booed during his entrance. Plus Hopkin's is a good trash talker too.
No, in the 90s he was behind Roy Jones, James Toney, Pernell Whitaker, Evander Holyfield, and Julio Cesar Chavez in terms of p4p rankings, and if I recall it came as a bit of a shock when he beat Tito Trinidad early in the 2000s. In the early part of this century he was ranked just below Pacquiao and Mayweather, partly do to the quality of his opposition being even harder in his 40s than it had been, with the exception of Roy Jones, when he was a young man. He was the dominant champion of the middleweight division for ten years, the way that Roy Jones ruled the light heavyweight circuit, but there weren't a lot of good middleweights for him to match against and impress people by beating.
Hes one of the best If only he could entertain with his boxing the way he can with his mouth my god that sounded gay
In the meaningless way you're asking here, no. In actual parlance of the sport, in the way that will matter in posterity to boxing historians, yes, in two separate divisions. He was the man (in the sense of being the lineal and/or undisputed champion) at 160 for a very long time and later, improbably the man for quite a while at 175 entirely in what is considered very old age in pugilism.
Hopkins is like Mayweather and Rigo, a pure boxer who only real boxing fans could love. He was never a PPV star. Most of his career was in the Pre-PPV era. Many hate him, but they can't beat him, in or out of the ring. Still, who cares. At one time, Hopkins was the UNDISPUTED middleweight champion of the world. He moved up and beat the champion at LHW and has beaten other LHW elites as well. Some fools will always try to bring Hopkin's legacy down, but they are weak and impotent, so they won't have any effect on B-Hops ATG status. Hopkins is getting very close to retirement, but I'm sure he will remain an active part of boxing for the next 25-30 years via GBP and other management endeavors he pursues.
Its become almost impossible to think of Hopkins without remembering Calzaghe making him his jailhouse *****
