Was Graham as good as you can get without achieving greatness?
    He holds wins over:
    Giardello
    Gavilan
    Aragon
    Basilio
    Young

Don't be ridiculous. Faulkner is unequivocally great.

Sometimes I think you're trolling us mcvey.

Didn't Graham once "win" the title....then have the decision reversed?

As posted before, I saw as a youngster Billy Graham as a prelim boy fight 4 rounders, and watched him fight ringside til the end of his career...A MASTER boxer was Billy Graham with a classic style and a concrete set of whiskers that saw Billy Graham fight 126 times in his career without ever being STOPPED or even floored...His only drawback from being on a par with Robinson was Billy's
lack of a knockout blow... Some old timers called Graham a lesser edition of
the great Jack Britton who went over 330 bouts WITHOUT ever being KOD.
So yes I would call Billy Graham an alltime GREAT welterweight. Why NOT ?...

Faulkner is unreadable for me, I tried," The Sound And The Fury" for the 4th time, but gave it up. I enjoyed ,"The Lion" and that's about it. Next time you get the urge to get whimsical ,why not curb it?

No. I believe you may be thinking of one of his bouts with Giardello, where it went back and forth and had to be settled in court because of irregularities in the scoring. But his first title shot was a robbery. He deserved that fight.

Anyway Graham is a hall of famer but that feels like a mistake. He has a losing record against top contenders. When he beat basilio, Basilio was young or at least he didn't have any real big wins. Aragon good fighter but a lightweight. Sure he beat Giardello but Giardello took two out of three and he was never the most consistent guy himself.

That leaves the Gavilan fights. The one I saw didn't look like the worst robbery I've ever seen but Gavilan showed who the better fighter was. Graham spent long stretches beating up journeyman and solid but not special fighters. So very good but not great.

Probably not the best of that designation but it's all you can ask.

I don't think so. I wonder if there's a home movie of Hemingway punching guys in the *****?
