Was Billy Nelson right to force Bakole out for the last two rounds?

It's an awkward one. In that situation I would want my fighter to fight on and if i were a boxer I would fight on. Issue is if you have a fighter who doesn't have the heart to want to fight on their in serious risk of them getting badly hurt. Bakole was being outworked and outfought throughout so i think with that and fact he was out of shape hes chucked it. I would be very surprised if his and Billys coaching relationship continues for long after this.

You will see Bakole was mentally beaten from round 6 onwards, but it’s not something he couldn’t have turned around. The cards were jobbed in his favour, and he still would have had the chance to win had he recovered his composure.

 

It’s a pity billy can’t force himself to come back on here.... you’ve got some explaining to do billy??!!!!

 

A serious trainer would let Bakole go, hes a waste of time

 

Billy said in the corner "Don't quit on me" or "your not gonna quit" that imo speaks volumes..No injury and Nelson seen it for what it was

 

he was right to send him back out, but he should've thrown the towel in before the stoppage, he couldn't defend himself and was just getting tagged at will

Yes I agree.

It was a difficult one for the ref I thought. I know there's a lot of moaning about British stoppages but given the risks involved I support the early interventions. However this was 50 seconds away from the end of the fight and he'd previously been able to recover so I did understand the ref holding back at first. Not that Bakole could win but he could've gone the distance and saved some face. I was shouting towel though as it continued.

 

Its the same thing to me..It wasn't an injury, Nelson would know him like the back of his hand, and sniffed his heart was missing as the fight wore on. I'm no body language expert, but the impression he gave me was of a fighter that couldn't tough it out, the way he was pointing at his shoulder or arm to his corner was a bit too open and blatant for me, like im done kinda look

 

Nothing wrong with what Nelson did. Bakole ain't got it.

 

I think there is certain circumstances where quitting is the sensible option and one that should never be looked down on.
However taking everything into consideration I do think Billy was right to try get his man back out there but he should of had the towel all ready to throw once it was blatantly obvious that there was no hope of reviving bakoles will/desire.

 

Quitting would of been worse for bakole, he took his licks and got stopped legitimately, he can come back from that.

 

Billy’s credibility has taken a big hit with this one!
A real leader never asks his men to do something he’s not prepared to do himself.
He expected blubber boy bakole to man up when the going got tough... now let’s see billy do the same. Face the music. Come on here. You’ve got some explaining to do billy. Come out with your hands up billy, wherever you are!

 

@N17 made a great point in one of the other threads. Had Bakole landed a haymaker KO shot in those last two rounds we’d be hailing Nelson as a genius, inspiration coach who called it right.

At the end of the day, by telling Bakole to get his arse back out there, he at least has taught him to man up and not look for the easy way out. That will do wonders for his heart moving forward. If he allowed Bakole to jack it in, that’s the precedent to do it again in the next fight when the going gets tough. I still have doubts over Bakole’s heart but at least he’s been in there at the deep end and taken a beating.
