What is the general consensus (if anyone even cares)?

That was as poor and pathetic of a stoppage that there is. That fight pretty much sums up the "career" of Calslappy.

Pathetic stoppage, the ref was intimidated by the crowd and wanted to make JC look good.

    Yeah - great stoppage.

Manfredo was obviously out on his feet and at serious risk of suffering a life changing injury. He's a warrior with a hell of a chin, but it just makes no sense to allow him to stand there and take those bombs off of Calzaghe. It's only a sport, and there is whole life outside of boxing. Having use of your brain/eyes/legs/mouth is more important than being remembered as a warrior.

Manfredo should have thanked the ref that night, he may well have save his career/life.

    Quite.

There are few things more tragic in sport than seeing a death in the ring.

Terrible hands + decent chin + barrage of punches = awful stoppage

I felt a little sorry for both guys.

joe c would of boxed him around the ring all night with accurate punches to manfredo's inexperienced face. brutal punches or not he didn't stand a chance, manfredo looked the rank amatuer that he was. the ref did the right thing

The ref did the right thing in stopping a fight even though a fighter was not in any danger because he thought that fighter would lose?

    Good post.

It was a **** stoppage, not that it really mattered.

Manfredo was way out of his depth.

I was actually very impressed with Manfredo's defensive abilities at the time of the stoppage, he was shoulder rolling Calzaghe's punches like a champ.

Where was that ref for the Benn McClellan fight? McClellan TKO 1 Benn.

    Inconsequential stoppage.

Manfredo had no want to be in there, wasn't firing back shots and although he didn't get hit hard in that video footage, it's easy to review it now when you're not in the ring.

My consensus is the stoppage was coming regardless and that it was only a matter of time before Calzaghe started finding the mark with his punches.

Anyone who disagrees is just showing hatred for Calzaghe.
