Calzaghe proved he aint no pum in that fight despite Mitchell finishing on his feet

 

he was hurt but not on ***** street. only one who was on ***** street was Mitchell who received a solid beating for 60 seconds or so before he was staggering around like a drunk and in no state to continue.

 

Calzaghe has a glass jaw, but great recovery, like Nigel benn.

I'm not sure if it's Calzaghe's chin or his defence which is more at fault here. I mean, Salem ended his career with a pretty poor 12 stoppage wins from 29 fights so he was a bit of a featherfist, but this was a prime Joe C doing his usual, wading in with his head up straight and no guard. It's lucky for him that a mediocrity like Salem didn't have the brains, balls or skills to even try and go for a finish.

He was hurt for maybe 4 - 5 seconds after the punch landed, looked more stunned than properly hurt, got himself up from the canvas, composed himself and then started throwing with real mallice and venom. I remember Calzaghe looking at the ref whilst Mitchell was on ***** street as if to say "are you going to stop the fight now".

That would finish the vast majority of super middles, Joe wades in with his chin up in the air and Salem let go with a corker of a punch that he properly turned over with venom and all the leverage he could possibly get. Not a punch that Joe should get caught with but something he was suseptible to do when he went gung ho and too aggresive.

A mediocrity with 12 KOs in 29 fights can throw shots which would "finish the vast majority of supermiddles".

Pity he never, ever threw one of these single-shot-supermiddleweight-scud-missiles against the 17 people he never put a dent in, most of which were bums and journeymen well accustomed to taking a pasting.
