That's all I needed to hear. And a fight with GLENCOFFE Johnson? Calzaghe ducked that one THREE TIMES.

Calzaghe's career is the definition of WHAT IF...as in WHAT IF he had the nutsack to fight the same legends he beat in their primes?

    calzaghe has a unique style.
he gets **** on from a great height on ESB but few give his style the credit .

the only similarity from sweatpea to calzaghe is that calzaghe squares up to opponents /drops his hands by his side and moves his head , countering from both hands in a weird crab like square stance.

both of them did that occasionally in fights sweat pea more.

the jones fight was something like what sweat pea did all the times in fights.

but calzaghe was also sloppy/fought down to his opponents level against boxers sweat pea would have clowned.

what calzaghe does not get credit for from a lot on esb is for just how adaptable was v everytype of style there was

you might not like him/his punches were poorley delivered a lot of the time/
his opposition a lot of the time was poor.

but where he should be given respect , even if you do not like him , is for being one of the most versatile fighters at any weight in the last 30 years.

calzaghe was a fighter who could stand in the trenches on the inside with the banger .

outbox the boxer on the outside

    outhustle the slickster

    outmaul the mauler

    outspeed the speedster

    outspoil the spoilier

    outwork the high output fighter

new every trick /foul in the book and was a very relaxed /adaptable ring mechanic who had incredible stamina and punch output for a fighter in the middleweight light heavyweight classes and did it over a very long period of time remaining at his peak.

so a sweat pea he was not , but he was a unique hybrid fighter who if he needed to be slick , he could be.

Ill try and name some slicker southpaws off the top of my head though that fought during Joe's era.

    Pongsalek Wonjongkom
    Irene Pachecho
    Veeraphol Sahaprom
    Stevie Johnston
    Cory Spinks
    Montell Griffen
    Joel Casamayor
    Ivan Calderon
    Mark Johnson
    Gerry Penalosa
    Gairy St Clair

Hell even Smoke Gainer..he would have had to been with how bad his chin could be.

A lot of those guys were slicker IMO..some on par at least.

Joe is like Tex Cobb compared to Sweet Pea..But he had an awkward style and was proficient defensively, you cant really doubt that. "Pretty slick" is fair enough call..the modern day Sweet Pea is not.

I think Calzaghe and Ottke are related in some way, maybe thats why they never fought each other.
