Was Calzaghe's dispatching of Jeffrey Lacy one of the greatest/best wins of this era?

    Discuss.

Lacy at the time was hyped by the entire boxing world to be the NEXT TYSON. And contrary to the many beliefs now, many actually thought he would be the next American star or the next Black hope (This is not in any way shape or form race baiting, it's just what people say towards fighters with a certain skin colour).

Gerry Cooney- Next white hope etc etc....

Actually, many American boxing stars namely Roy/James Toney, etc all expected a clean domination from Jeff Lacy, making claims that Joe was a stay at home fighter, his only notable win was Eubank 8 years ago and not only this did not come true, Lacy's career ended in Wales that night.

Joe was also a huge underdog going into the fight

In my opinion, had Jeff not fought Calzaghe, he definitely would have gone on to become a certified HOF. Calzaghe's style is just impossible to prepare for, he spoils one's boxing to the point where they can't do anything in the fight.

    Just ask Kessler

    After the fight, Kessler said

"He was just impossible to solve, too difficult, I couldn't do anything, too good of a spoiler is that damn Calzaghe"

I know it still pains many Americans (Including myself) that Jeff's career had to end that way.

We simply underestimate The Italian Dragon, no one thought he would be THAT damn good.

We all thought Jeff would go on to become the next PPV star. Boy, were we wrong. :patsch

Some idiots on Boxing forums were hyping this guy up and talking **** as if Joe Calzaghe wasn't a real fighter or something. It was a very good win for Joe especially considering all the lame predictions that Jeff Lacy would simply walk through him. I must admit that I had not seen Jeff Lacy fight prior to that fight and to be honest I didn't see the fight and I don't think that I've ever seen Jeff in the ring but regardless of that it was obvious to me that nobody was simply going to walk through Joe Calzaghe, it would be a fight whichever way it would go.

I guess that at the time that it happened it was a pretty good win for Joe Calzaghe but afterwards Jeff Lacy went to work at disproving himself and decreasing the significance of Joe's achievement.

Bearing that in mind it certainly isn't The best win of this era but it could potentially belong somewhere in the top 100 list.

BHOP's destruction of Kelly Pavlik is a better win.

You are right about Calzaghe's style. It is so unorthodox that normal fighters have a difficult time figuring it out. Joe might have the most unorthodox style in all of boxing history. It's a feminine style that out females even bytches.

lol Lacy struggled with Omar Sheika before Calzaghe. He was never proven. Look at his career since then. If it was such a huge win he would have bounced back and been a champion. Sadly this is as good as it gets for Calzaghe fans.

remember when Arran made the thread ''Calzaghe will annihilate Lacy'' and all the americans hammered him for it? That was hilarious, first class ownage by the Brit. He even said he would win by a shut out if I remember? all the americans laughed in his face.

Fact: Lacy only became hype after Calzaghe toyed with him.

haha...look at all the folks that said Lacy would win, practically every man in America...including Toney, Hopkins and a bunch of other US boxers.....Cazlaghe ruined him thats why he never bounced back...that an a torn rotor cuff. funny how americans play down the win...but if you check the predictions before hand it was an easy ko win for lacy.
