Was Calzaghe's dispatching of Jeffrey Lacy one of the greatest/best wins of this era?

It was a one sided beatdown and the majority of Americans didn't know who Calzaghe was tho he was huge in Europe. Joe had been around the block much more experienced than Lacy all Lacy had was the left hook. Joe in his zone fought like a madman very fearless fighter didn't matter if he was outgunned he was a punching machine. Sal Sanchez and Calzaghe 2 great examples of great fighters with great stamina. Also 2 great examples of stamina over power, tho both did have underrated power. Lacy in truth would of been exposed by an elite such as Taylor or Hopkins at the time, but Calzaghe did his own thing and gotta respect that. Most forget he has that Italian heart, fights like fighters of the past.

I'd say Hopkins wins over Pavlik and Tarver were bigger victories. Those were much more surprising outcomes IMO.

Calzaghe beating Lacy was an impressive win, no doubt. I don't think most people thought of Lacy as some kind of P4P stalwart, but he looked like a very promising young fighter up to the point he got embarassed by Joe C.

Jeff lacy never beat anyone notable so how is this a great win. Calzaghe also never beat anyone who was prime and an elite fighter. - he lost to a 43 year old geezer but the judges ended up beating Benard

I think like me, most Americans had never even heard of Calzaghe until he was scheduled to fight Lacy. His Lacy fight was the only fight of Calzaghe's that I had ever seen or have yet to see. So most Americans had no idea what to expect. It was a one sided beat down for sure. I had picked Lacy to win I will admit, Calzaghe boxed a clinic that night. I wasn't even close.

In context, absolutely. Nearly all pundits were picking Lacy, who was the "Next Tyson". Joe completely dominated him and for all purposes ruined him.

beatng lacy put calzaghe on the world scene.

he didn't enter the world scene during the previous 7 years earlier when he won his supposed word title.
