Abraham is mostly a power puncher but also has solid boxing skills and good attributes such as handspeed to compare him with Lacy would be totally wrong. I think he would have more than a good chance at beating Calzaghe and I'm sure a lot of the current fighters would also. Calzaghe's biggest fights were against 2 old men, jeff Lacy and ok Kessler not bad, but he has been very lucky imo.

of course it was over rated. That doesn't mean he was anything less than a very good fighter but to call him a great fighter (which is what the media-not ESB is doing) is over-rating him. I'm not saying this based on Ward beating Kessler because it makes no difference to me, I'm saying this based on his resume. Unbeaten doesn't mean ****.

I think Joe Calzaghe ranks up there. He was dominant and deserves to be ranked ATG.. Maybe not top 20, but he is there.

I think this was an established fact before Ward beat Kessler. I liked Calzaghe as a fighter but he took the easy route and his unbeaten record doesnt tell the real story.

Yes but you can't knock his win over kessler because of what happenend last night. Kessler held 2 belts at the time and him and joe were the best in the division when joe beat him.

Awful thread. Dumb topic. Joe Calzaghe was a great fighter and a class act and did what he has to. He maybe the bst SMW all time with the 10 year 20 defense reign. Some people are just ignorant.

Ward v Kessler has nothing to do with it. Calzaghe was a very good boxer who fought (almost exclusively) handpicked foregone conclusions.

Calzaghe is a legend in his own neighborhood. Pacman is in danger of the same fate.

Fans from the UK and Pi would take their heroes over TPR (The Pudgy Russian) in an MMA bout.

Calzaghe managed to maneuver through his career without a blemish on his record. Quite an accomplishment. How great an accomplishment? He's retired. It will always depend on who you talk to. Not unlike discussing whether or not Rocky Marciano was the GOAT heavyweight. Italians have a different view than most all other boxing fans.

Don't get me wrong, Calzaghe does not rate in the same league with The Rock. Of course, I have to admit that I'm Sicilian.

you would like to think that wouldn't you? How can anyone know good he his? He never fought an elite fighter who was in his prime ... not once. I would like to see your argument against that fact
