I keep seeing this claim being thrown around, even by Canelo himself. Any truth, or proof behind it?

I wasn’t 100% physically. My hand wasn’t 100%, and I couldn’t train 100%. A week before the fight, I suffered a rib injury during training,” said Canelo Alvarez to Hugo Sanchez Presenta, discussing what went wrong in his loss to Dmitry Bivol last year.

    Lol.

I believe Canelo's full quote was:

I wasn’t 100% physically. My hand wasn’t 100%, and I couldn’t train 100%. A week before the fight, I suffered a rib injury during training. My ring walk costume was too heavy. My trainer drugged me. Bivol had egg weights in his gloves. The judges only sided with Bivol because his country's at war. I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locusts. It wasn't my fault I got slapped around by a superior technician! I swear to God!"

    Canelo is a bum

Canelo & Crawford need to fight each other to secure a legacy because if they retired right now they'd be forgotten to the ether. Pair of boring ugly SODS.

If that were true, Canelo would be asking for a rematch ASAP.

He did. He wanted the rematch, Bivol refused to grant him a rematch. Bivol offered to challenge him at 168, but not at 175 for his title. It must have been a little too close for comfort for Dmitry, to risk his title again, at least.

And to those that are acting like Canelo was making excuses, when a fighter is truly injured or less than 100%, there's a fine line between making excuses and revealing the injury. It sounds like it was one of those injuries that needed surgery but it wasn't bad enough to postpone the fight. He chose to fight with some kind of a hand injury, the severity of which is unclear but it was obviously a legit injury as he had surgery on it after beating GGG. I didn't hear anything about the rib injury after the fight.

It's possible he was injured. But the thing is if there's one fighter who has the power to pull from a fight and still get the fight again, it's obviously Canelo. This tells us then that he was overconfident going in, thinking he could win despite the injury. Turns out he miscalculated.

I'd say it's somewhat similar to Liam Smith being overconfident because he hung around on here too much and saw everyone acting like they knew he was going to beat Eubank the first time and would get the KO again, even though Eubank had never been stopped by even 168'rs before that first fight. So Smith took the fight injured thinking he just had to land on suddenly chinless Eubank, then got beaten up. Difference was that Smith didn't have the A-side power of Canelo to reschedule the fight at his choosing.

But Canelo hasn't tried too hard to rematch, not compromising when he clearly could if he wanted it. So he's clearly wary of Bivol now. And I think Canelo copes with the loss by using the injury and the fact it was at 175.

If he was injured then why didn't he take the rematch when he was fully healed instead of fighting a shot GGG, overmatched John Ryder and Pookie Charlo?

Canelo is a crybaby and a disgrace. No fighter has been given the benefit of the doubt by corrupt and crooked referees and judges. Nobody.

Everyone that has ever lost a fight in boxing was injured when they lost. That's the only reason they lost, they weren't at 100% during that specific time. If they were 100% it would've been an easy fight, they would've shown how superior they were to the opponent that dominated them..................
