In the last ten or so years Arturo Gatti has become the go to guy when describing an all action warrior with the most entertaining fights. But was he more fun to watch than Carmen Basilio who won fight of the year honors five times back to back (1955-1959)?
Yes because he was a greater fighter who fought greater fighters than Gatti did in longer better fights with more meaning.
Basilio was a true bad-bass, who had very good fighters to contend with at "welter", and had to fight bigger men up at MW. (Carmen is a another fighter that would have benefited immensely from a Jr. MW Division being around in his era).
They were equally entertaining. I'm not sure the level of opposition really makes a difference here but Carmen was clearly the better fighter (top 15 all-time WW in my view) so his greatest wins have more historical meaning than Gatti's, that's for sure.
Basilio because he could land punches on clever fighters like Robi and Gavilan whereas Gatti`s fight with Floyd one two one sided and boring, I feel Basilio v Floyd would of been quite exciting because he had less flaws than Pac and would counter Floyd much better.
