Was Charles Martin genuinely terrible or just got caught cold?

Neither. Martin couldn't wait to get out the ring and spend the $8.5 million Hearn was paying him. Martin after the last knock down realized he was getting paid either way, so why taking anymore punishment from Joshua.

After the match Martin looked like the happier man compared to Joshua

 

I suspect he’s rubbish which is the opinion I had before he fought Joshua but I’d love to be proved wrong as Kownacki needs knocking out imo.

Regardless of the showing versus Joshua he was at the very least somebody that fought on even terms with Glazkov. Now unless you want to just haul a solid HW contender (and one of "your own", an EE) under the bus you can't conclude honestly him being a clown, can you? Or somebody that Kownacki should be heavily favored over except by somebody with too much vodka in their belly?

I knew he was terrible before he even stepped in the ring with AJ, said AJ who was then a novice would walk through him and that's exactly what happened. AJ didn't even get out of first gear, he KO'ed him without even really trying.

You only have to watch Martin box to see he's riddled with huge flaws. Chin up in the air, there to be hit. His footwork is atrocious, too narrow, unbalanced, uncoordinated, sometimes even walking in the ring he seems to be ungainly, his foot work is that bad! Jab is weak and he stands still after throwing and is wide open to be countered which is what AJ did to drop him twice.

Physically Martin is also not in great condition. If anyone saw the training he did before Joshua when he hired a strength and conditioning coach for the first time it's clear he's in horrible shape. His core strength is abysmal and he was struggling with exercises that a motivated gym goer could handle with ease.

Now that doesn't mean Martin might not win and beat Kownacki but that's because Kownacki isn't much better than he is. He's coming in horribly overweight and is easy to hit as we saw when Kiladze busted his nose. So that might make the difference in this match up between C listers.

 

He's about Luis Ortiz level. Meaning he's fair shite

 

All good points, but If, as he says, he has got better training and changed his attitude there's an awful lot there that could be improved.

That he got into his initial position with all those flaws suggests there's some talent and physical gifts to work with?

Charles Martin is this generations Bruce Seldon. And that's an insult to Bruce.

 

we dont actually know if he was awful because he was too busy (highly likely) taking a fall against AJ.


Seriously that looked like a dive, you dont get knocked over and then grin happily and stay down. He walked the ring like an amoeba.

Perhaps even JOshua suspects it was a dive, with his "dont call me champion yet" after it.

 

he should of got up from the kd spat in joshuas face and got beaten like a real man.

 

he also has a terrible jab.

 

He has some natural ability I give you that, he's a big guy, with solid power, OK hand speed but that alone won't make him a threat to any of the top 10 guys.

He got into the position he did by beating nobody of note. His best win is Glazkov and we know what happened there. Who's his best legit win? Tom Dallas? Alexander Flores? Not exactly remarkable all he's proven is he's better than a journeymen, at best Martin is gate keeper level.
