I think he was. I watched the fight closely. The Thai came to fight and he is a banger but I thought Gonzales landed more effective punches and did more damage. Some of these judges seem to be either on the take or incompetent. How does someone like Julie Lederman, the daughter of Harold Lederman, get put into a position like that, to judge fights? Is she even competent? It wouldn't appear so. I think it is a real shame Chocolatito had the decision stolen from him. The guy is incredibly talented. He should still be undefeated. Thoughts?
Absolutely!! Lost a point for KD, gain it back for point deduction for head butt. I thought he dominated the exchange for at least 8 of the rounds. A clear win for Gonzales on my card.
Boom answered your own question. That's how most all the judges get their job that or friends of the promoter etc, their's no school for it, no past work makes you qualified, there is no training, which is probably why their so inept. Gonzalez should still be undefeated yes.
I don't know, haven't seen the footage. (we're talking about the latest in the Yusaf Mack series, yes?) Could be he just did some artful nude posing or made out with a few dudes, nothing serious. I'm not going to say he got screwed without having seen as much in hi-res where he's clearly identifiable.
What was strange was that the crowd was clearly for Gonzalez. So you can't say it was influencing the judges. And Gonzalez was the star, which usually influences judges also. I don't know. Did anyone see Hatman at the Garden that night?
I mean there are literally millions of 5'3" cocoa-toned Nicaraguans with fighters' builds out there doing gay porn. It could've been anybody.
He was definitely screwed. Him going down from that body shot in the first round though, I think put a picture in the judges minds, that Wongek or whatever his name was, was bringing some serious heat. Gonzalez clearly outlanded Wongek. He clearly landed the cleaner punches, and more of them. While Wongek threw punches awkward, like he was a converted southpaw, and wasn't fluid at all. That's what Gonzalez gets for being a Diva though. He got paid less to get robbed against Wongek, than he was going to get, to face Estrada, Cuadras, or Inoue.
A few points I have to make about the Gonzalez fanboys crying robbery. Compubox has never been the most reliable source, and that's in matches where the guys are throwing 20-30 shots per rounds, so I highly doubt their accuracy when judging how many clean shots are landed in a literal tornado of punches. That being said, Roman racked up the lopsided numbers from a handful of one sided rounds, the rest he may have edged by 5 or 6 shots. Most rounds the punches landed varied by around 5 or 10, not 20 or 30. Now let's look at the quality of the punches, Sor Rungvisai clearly landed the more hurtful thudding punches, even the shots he landed on the arms of Roman looked like they hurt, and when you see a guy coming forward driving a straight left through the guard and landing uppercuts and hooks to the body, repeatedly, one at a time, they make more of an impression than the little flurries Roman did attempting to steal back a lot of the rounds he was losing in, or his weak jabs. So you get rounds where one guy lands a ****load of pitty pats, and yes at Super Flyweight Roman isn't all that heavy handed, or a guy that's literally driving Roman back a few inches with every clean shot that lands. Which shots count for more? Roman's may have been cleaner and more accurate, but Sor Rungvisai's did more damage, wherever they landed. Now onto the robbery claims, who in the hell would it benefit if Chocolatito lost? Certainly not HBO, they don't want one of their budding superstars they're shoving down everyone's throats taking a loss, they had a Gonzalez-Inoue superfight that they've been priming us up for and slowly building towards. Or a profitable rematch with either Estrada or Cuadras, or both. I highly doubt they were getting payback in some way for the Cuadras and Estrada results, neither of them were clear cut robberies, if a robbery at all, and I doubt Cuadras and Estrada backers or fans hold much sway in Vegas. Also like I said before why derail rematches with both to hand the belt to a relative unknown? I also highly doubt anyone wanted to see the P4P Number 1 fighter in the world lose to a virtual unknown Thai garbage man, it would benefit no one financially. The only people that may have been happy about this result were the legions of Mayweather fanboys on the net who resent all the hype Roman gets as far as being the new P4P No. 1 or for some other bizarre reason, but I doubt internet fanboy's opinions hold much sway with Boxing judges. Roman lost a close fight in which he got the hell beaten out of him by the harder puncher and the bigger man, he fought valiantly, produced another brilliant FOTY contender, but the result was fairly just. Finally the judges in Vegas got one right, and that's with the ****ty ref deducting an unnecessary point for an entirely unintentional butt. Roman did awesomely, but last night just wasn't his night and Super Flyweight just isn't and will never be his division. In closing, Roman it could be argued did enough to possibly edge 6 rounds, so it could have been a draw, maybe at best if stretching it, Roman by a point, but Sor Rungvisai by a point or two is completely plausible as well, so stop the bellyaching, it was no robbery.
I have tended to agree with you on a lot of things but this one we are going to have to part ways. Gonzales landed not only more punches, he landed the more telling punches. They were not pitty pat punches by any stretch. There were several times in the fight where the Thai was clearly hurt, backed away and held. He head butted several times, opening up big gashes in Gonzales' scalp and his eye. And towards the end of the fight especially, the Thai was holding on constantly, while Gonzales was bringing the fight to him. As to the logic behind the decision, let's not forget Thailand is a country that broadcasts kick boxing twice a week. These broadcasts are huge and watched by the majority of the population. It is a big deal, believe me, I have been there and seen it. So, why would the decision go to the Thai? Because there is a huge market to tap. Look at the following PacMan has. This is the reason this decision may have gone this way. The same way they were promoting the small Chinese gold medalist in Macau. The markets are enormous.
