Was Cortez interfering too much in Mayweather-Hatton?...

....If you believe this, then would you agree that Bayless, in the short time that Pac-Hatton lasted, interfered too much in that fight, as well?

The reason I bring this up, is because the other day I read a few comments which again made the claim that Hatton was hindered from Cortez’s insistence on halting the action. But really, if you take a look at the first two rounds of both fights, you’ll find that his [Cortez's] performance wasn’t any different to that of the revered Kenny Bayless. Totals:
Cortez jumps in to break the action 19 times out of 24 clinches/holding.
Bayless also jumps in to break the action 19 times out of 21 clinches/holding.

Note: In the first round of the Pac fight, 8 of those interferences from Bayless occurred before the 2 knockdowns happened. So in just 2 minutes of the first round, he stepped in exactly the same amount of times Cortez did in the 3 full minutes of the Mayweather fight. It’s also important to remember that Pacquiao, unlike Mayweather, is less likely to force clinches and spoil; thus (you would think) giving Bayless less reasons to step in.

So again I ask; if you believe Cortez was stopping the action way too much, then would you say the same for Bayless? Or would you agree that, due to the excessive holding/spoiling from both men, Cortez in fact had little choice but to continuously separate the two, and that the reason Hatton couldn’t perform as well wasn’t because of the referee, but because he simply couldn’t hand Floyd on the inside.

in the first 3 rounds, yeah Cortez was quick to break them but after that, he let hatton do his thing. if anything, Hatton should thank Cortez for not DQing him for all those rabbit punches in the back of the head. but anyways let hatton do it all after the 3rd floyd just simply adapted, broke him down, and got the KO

that KO was destined to happen with or without Cortez. hes was setting up that checkhook all night.

He actually gave hatton a warning at the time when Mayweather was the one clinching.

Yeah, not quite a checkhook, but the very first significant punch Mayweather lands in the fight, was a beautiful hook as Ricky was coming in.

In the second round, Cortez stopped the action to warn both guys. Not just Hatton.

Go watch Mayweather/Mosley as well. Look how quickly Bayless breaks the clinches in that fight.

I love when fans break down different fights like this, give their opinion on what happened and provide us with videos/links to bring in our own input. Bookmarked to watch later after work. Thanks Rico!

Hatton was more of a brawler and not holding on...Cortez would step in within seconds.
He was very annoying to the fighters as well as the viewers!!!

Cortez is the most faulty ref in the game. whenever i see him i just ****ing KNOW hes gonna **** up somehow or involve himself to much.

Cortez loves the spotlight. when you buy a ppv you're not just trying to see the 2 fighters but him to.....well thats what he thinks at least.

The fight was a difficult one to manage, to be fair. You can see it for yourself the amount of holding and spoiling that was going on in just the first two rounds alone. 24 clinches. That's one every 15 seconds.

Don't you think it was more of a case of Mayweather not letting Hatton fight his fight?

Yes but the clinches and breaking of them is a HUGE subject of that fight. To compare the 'reason' Hatton lost in that fight to his only other loss, is significant I think. Just mad people are standing over me at work and I can't watch it now! :yep
