Was Cotto-Canelo fight of the year material?

    Salido vs Martinez I
    Afolabi vs Ramirez
    Fonfara vs Cleverly

Those three were so much better. I don't know how anybody could pick Cotto Canelo for fight of the year. They must either not know **** or weren't paying attention.

It's what you like. All three fights you mentioned contained more action, but had no where near the technical ability that Canelo v Cotto had.

I liked the three fights you mentioned and also enjoyed the Cotto v Canelo fight. I do like a good toe-to-toe brawl, but i also enjoy seeing the more technical and subtle skills in boxing; jabs, footwork, lateral movement, upper body movement, feints, transference of weight from back foot to front and vice versa giving a smooth transition from defence to offense and vice versa, smooth combinations, variety in shots and deliberate variety in power and speed of shots.

Across all sports, I'd have to give fight of the year to Rousey vs Holm. That one had a big fight feel, and had an amazing finish.

    For boxing, I'm not sure.
Canelo will probably get KO of the year, after that Kirkland knockout. Bam!

No. It was pretty enjoyable, but wasn't even the best fight on the card.

Depends on who you ask. Some people like to watch barroom brawls others like to see the sweet science, me I like a little of both. I can appreciate the sweet science when it leads to blood, knockdowns, ko's etc etc.

The problem with Rousey v Holm is that it was not competitive. FOTY candidates are usually competitive as this adds greatly to the excitment.

I hate to point out the obvious, but Rousey and Holm wouldn't even be contenders in the men's division. Besides, it takes more than advertising to make a fight of the year. Often the best fights fly under everyone's radar while big boring fights like Manny/Floyd get all of the coverage. Makes me feel like hunting down and watching some of those Asian fights like Daigo Higa Vs Kongfah CP Freshmart or Masao Nakamura Vs Daiki Kaneko.

No way, it was a decent fight, that's about it.
