Only a complete ****ing muppet who has no idea how to score a fight would argue that Floyd lost at least four rounds. He lost four rounds at most, and that's giving every round that wasn't a clear Mayweather round to Cotto.
Yes, it was blown up. Everytime someone manages to win a round against Floyd or everytime he gets hit more than twice in a round, a shitstorm always ensues. You can be certain if it was a popular guy with a huge fanbase like DLH in Floyd's place, every boxing forum would still be flooded with posts about how he's the greatest of the last 50 years. Same old, same old. Edit: Floyd's the only fighter I can think of in the history of boxing where I wouldn't be surprised if people would start saying **** like LOOK, LOOK! HE ONLY LANDED 36% OF HIS PUNCHES AGAINST 18% IN X FIGHT! HE'S SLIPPING, HE'S A LAME ASS BUM NOW!
Why did he surprise you? I will admit, I thought Floyd would stop him due to TKO before the fight becuase of too many shots and Cottos corner throwing in the towel .... But Cotto was the official 154 champ, and Floyd was easily outweighed by about 10 lbs and Cotto actually had a corner man in his fight this time and he only had 2 losses out of 39 fights, and was coming off 3 consecutive victories.
I had it 8-4 live, 9-3 rewatching. Cotto gave Floyd a tough fight, his performance is not exaggerated.
Anyone that discredits Cotto's success against Floyd is simply hating. Other than the 3 out of the 4 first rounds Floyd had to earn and work very hard every second for the rest of the night. The rounds were very close and not one sided. HBO was riding high on Floyd, but the quietness and look/shock in Floyds corner was amazing every time a round ended. At the end of the night it was a great fight for the fans and Cotto show why he will be miss even by the critics/haters once he decides to hang the gloves. Floyd should be given more respect for taking this fight especially with no weight demands. I wouldnt mind a rematch but not anytime soon until Manny/Floyd settle their score. There potential fight is affecting how some and perhaps many are viewing their current fights and opponents in a way that is unfair at times.
It was a competetive fight until Cotto stopped punching in the 9th. That was 4 rounds basically defaulted to Floyd.
No it wasn't. No one expected Cotto to look that good despite his style being an obvious troublesome one for Mayweather. Cotto landed some nice clean body and headshots and showed confidence from the start. Even in defeat, Cotto hardly looked dominated.
You are smoking crack... WHEN the **** did Mayweather have Cotto wobbly besides that HYPED up uppercut in the 12th??? I am watching the 12th round right now and Cotto was in Mayweather face seconds after that uppercut... so tell me what fight YOU saw?? And STOP using the word "dominated" cause "domination" does not wear a bloody nose and look concerned between rounds with a fake ass smile when the cameraman comes around.
I can't say for sure, but I think that unless Cotto hurt Mayweather and managed to finish him, he would get knocked out if the fight was a round or two longer. Floyd is a 15 round fighter. He's a phenom in the ring and from what we know, one of the greatest of all time in the sport of boxing. I think he executed a smart gameplan against Cotto, landed almost all of his punches, threw the right punches, and made Cotto expend unnecessary energy. Mayweather did get hit occasionaly, but not consistently, and those that did land were not enough to seriously hurt Mayweather. Meanwhile, Mayweather was punishing Cotto, and while Cotto was game, Mayweather executed his game plan better than Cotto did his.
Cotto took a beating. His face after the fight says it all. Pissing blood, swollen to **** and meanwhile mayweather is clowning with the HBO crew and chumming it up with Beiber and Lil wayne. Cotto is backstage crying with both eyes nearly shut, he looked like a tomato. Cotto made Mayweather work to beat his ass if that makes you guys feel better.
