True. Atlas has a bit of a reputation for being a revisionist on himself, and it's led to a lot of people questioning his credibility. I'm more inclined to side with Cus just looking what Mike was before and after he died.

It was actually the death of Jim Jacobs that left Tyson to the mercy of Don King and HIMSELF. Tyson REALLY needed Jacobs....................surprised all of you have missed this.

What about don King? He's the one that milked Tyson dry.

This is ridiculous. Mike said when Cus died, it was like he lost a father.

Where are you getting your information from anyway?

Tyson said that Cus instilled discipline in him. It made him want to strive to be a better person in all apects of life, not just boxing.

If there was never a Cus, we would have never heard of Tyson. He would just be another inmate.

If Teddy Atlas had not been fired by Cus D'Amato & had remained as Tyson trainer in stead of Kevin Rooney, would he have ever tried to put a Negative spin on Cus' influence on Mike? The answer is a resounding NO!

Cus admitted he had a soft spot for Tyson, but the man made Tyson a great fighter. The Principles that Kevin Rooney followed on came from Cus!

Tyson misbehaved greatly & should have taken more responsibility for those actions, however, Atlas ain't no saint either. We can all speculate about what happened between Tyson & Atlas, but there is no doubt there are Sour Grapes from Teddy!

Cus created Tyson. Without Cus there would be no "Iron Mike."

No Cus would have meant no Tyson the boxer.

Mike ALWAYS credits Cus for helping him turn into something.

I think if anything Cus may have kept Tyson on track a little longer but he was bound to come undone eventually.

Exactly! The fact that Tyson went on to become the Youngest HW Champ & dominate the division was an accomplishment having lost Cus!

Rooney said Tyson used the anger constructively, i.e. when in sparring, training harder, like a man possessed!

You guys are full of it.Yes Cus made Mike into a great fighter but thats all Cus was concerned about and let Mike do what he wanted as long as he trained hard. There were numerous times where Cus covered up Tyson's behavoiur problems LONG BEFORE Mike won the title.Cus saw his ticket to having the heavyweight champion and NOTHING was going to get in the way even if he should have taught Tyson alot more then just boxing-hell Tyson was under his care for years. That whole "gentle side" of Tyson that they rammed down everyones throat when Tyson was was a rising pro was fake-Cus and company just made sure to keep Tysons ****-ups under wraps-They were paying people off so they wouldn't take it to court.Remember who was the money backer for Cus when Tyson turned pro?
Atlas can be a drama queen but he called it like it was with Tyson.

It would be interesting to ask Tyson about this, but I seriously doubt he viewed Atlas as a moral compass.

You've gotta think -If Cus made Tyson accountable for his actions rather than sweep them under the carpet - Tyson would have became mentally stronger - A mentally strong Tyson would be almost unbeatable
