if he isn't focused on efficacy then is is a perfectly fair comparison.

take some speed and coke and tell me you can't work out on your own that they will be effective as peds.

Speed and coke will have serious negative effects upon performance.

PEDS and their use have become a fine science to improve athletic performance.

In the 20's nothing was a science. Snake oil prevailed. What was thought to help could hurt or kill.

you haven't got a clue, nothing but illogical, uninformed, rose tinted ****.

    i can see it now;
trainer - 'you've fought 14 rounds, you have a broken hand and a smashed up face, want some coke to perk you up?'
fighter - 'no, an adrenaline burst and confidence boost won't work because it isn't a fine science yet'

i agree it was dangerous, but if other sportsmen like cyclists(a brutal, if not violent, thing back then) would take the risk, and we know they did because they died from it, why wouldn't fighters?

you see how seamus corrected me and i looked into it then said, 'oh yeah i was wrong', learn from that.

Where else would she get the information on a PED like that? She wasn't exactly thick in the sports medicine world so far as I have gleaned.
He went out like a bat out of hell. It could definitely help if his initial attack didn't succeed.

Apparently you haven't read the article I attached that does back up the claims of strychnine as a PED.

At one stage, well before Dempsey, they were taking whiskey in between rounds. Wouldnt this count as a PED drug. Even if the results were dubious.

wada has alcohol on the list today. the only definition they give for peds is drugs that are banned.

i have no idea if someone who turned up to the olympics ****ed and fell over the hurdles would be charged.

"Perking you up" is not a PED. Having a shot of whisky is not a PED. Doing coke is not a PED.

You need to know what you are talking about which you don't. ANOTHER uneducated poster.

I have competed under drug testing at least a dozen times. Peed in the cup in front of staff. They were definitely looking for "perking you up" agents.

Why do you think half the US track team and NFL Is claiming ADD or narcolepsy.

The "you're wrong again" file is getting overstuffed.

you can go argue with the World Anti Doping Association if you want.

nobody is telling you a shot of whiskey is the same as steroids, but the facts are telling you that they are both peds by the only definition that matters.

in my opinion, based on facts and common sense, jack dempsey wasn't the first champion to use peds, there's anecdotal evidence he did, and proof that he wasn't the first.

The first PED-fuelled champ would be someone in ancient Greece.

James J. Corbett took strychnine if that's what we're talking about.

What do you know of the Corbett situation? Any deets?

I know that Thomas Hicks won the 1904 Olympic marathon after 2 doses of strychnine late in the race.

One nasty *****.The paper had it right,"hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Dempsey produced copies of cheques he sent her when he was away fighting, and she retracted in open court , charges that he did not send her money regularly.
