A PED is not a shot of whisky or a sniff of coke or smoking pot.

A PED is specific chemistry that allows an athlete to recouperate quicker inbetween workouts thus allowing finer conditioning, greater strength.

Whether you were tested for it does not mean it's a PED.

A PED is any drug that enhances performance.

Perry, perhaps you refer to AAS (anabolic-androgenic steroids) and other hormones (for example, Human Growth Hormone), rather than PEDs per se.

Tyson Fury and his brother Hughie have just been cleared of taking Nandrolone in Feb2015.

Not many details. I read recently that he took a strychnine tablet with meals in training, for years.

In response to rumours he was ill prior to the Fitzsimmons fight, the reporter here suggests the rumours originated when people observed him taking the pills.

Cocaine usage in boxing wasnt unheard of in that era. However, it was usually used differently than what Maxine Dempsey alleged. It was used more often in the same manner that novacaine was, as a numbing agent for fighters with bad hands. It was injected into the knuckles. In most locations thats banned today and why Mayweather fights exclusively in Nevada, they dont ban it as long as you give them notice (and make them a lot of money).

If you think cocaine improves boxing technique then you need to research the effects of cocaine. It doesn't always make you full of energy. Most of the time it puts you on your ass staring at the ceiling.

That was Maxines point actually. She attributed the fact that Dempsey was an early round fighter to his use of cocaine. If you even believe it.

Maxine's testimony is a bit of a double edged sword for apologists. If you believe that Dempsey was too good to have been stopped by a past his prime mediocre Jim Flynn then you have to buy into some of what Maxine was selling. If however you refuse to believe that Dempsey was a woman beating, draft dodging, PED using fake then you have to think she was lying about the fix and the Flynn loss was legitimate. Most apologists would rather pick and choose very selectively the "facts" they use to build the Dempsey myth. After all you have to be pretty selective with him in order to create that whopper.

I'm a Dempsey fan but I'm inclined to believe Flynn legitimately ko'd him.

If you drank from a live ******'s adrenal gland before going to the ring, would that count as a PED?

In defense of my younger infatuations, so did Duran, Monzon, Joe Louis, Tony Tubbs, Tony Tucker, Mike Tyson, Johnny Tapia and many, many other greats.

I stand proudly, and should be mentioned by all, as being in their company.

Boxing is a brutal unfair unpredictable sport. Everyone has their share of dirty work. Some get away with enhancements, some have hometown advantages, sometimes a guy will parachute into the ring unexpectedly...

There is a TV series on Net Flix called "Ma*seilles",
Gerard Depardieu, plays the mayor and is a coke user, I had to laugh watching him snort the sh*t up his huge proboscis, wondering how much the habit would have cost the modern day Cyrano De Bergerac.

    Imagine Jimmy Durante,Karl Malden,WC Fields,and Depardieu,sharing a toot they would need a kilo each.
