For the edification of the naysayers and dullards... http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/spor...of_bronze_medal_in_doping_case-390591451.html
You must have it confused with LSD. LOL Cocaine improves focus and eye hand coordination - for a short period, before it wears off. I know this because after doing it once, I couldn't miss the bulls eye in a game of darts. This could be why Pryor couldn't miss Arguello in the 14 the round after drinking out of the "special" bottle. I am not saying it was necessarily coke in the bottle, it could have been some other stimulant.
What more research is possible? We have the statement of somewhat intimate with his fighting practices, someone who really would have no other way of knowing of such practices as she had no other known association with the sporting world And we have the denial of the people here that the substance was actually a PED... which it was and still is.
Ah the garbage man sifting thru the garbage comes out smellin' like sh it, with his great revelations. If Dempsey was using then it was used by others, he didn't discover it himself, so it probably was common knowledge. You have to ask yourself to what extent did using effect his performance? People now and at the time and before looking for an edge. Let me ask you since you know so much, to what degree did it affect his performance would Dempsey have been Dempsey without using? Now if you can show that Dempsey without using would have been a mere mortal and it was due to his using that made him Dempsey, now that would be something.
Which others were using it? Where are the allegations made by those close to these fighters? Did Jeffries? Did Johnson or Willard? Where has this been printed? Well, Maxine said that with his bad back he would tend to get tired around the 4th or 5th round, but then "filled with strychnine" he would be difficult to beat. An edge is an edge and in a game of inches it doesn't need to be great.
Sorry I assumed this was a tongue in cheek, joke thread. As far as Maxine Cates veracity is concerned I would put her on a par with Mendoza!
There was nothing wrong with using PEDs before they were banned and boxers agreed not to. I didn't realize this was a moral/legal issue. I don't know if Seamus is trying to discredit Dempsey, or credit him with being ahead of his time ..... or neither. I believe Corbett took strychnine tablets before Dempsey, and I guess others did too.
It's of interest to the forum (I guess) because if it could be shown that Dempsey (or Corbett) used drugs to enhance performance in certain ways, this would undermine them in head-to-head stakes. It's to Tunney's disadvantage that he used brandy between rounds for example. But if Dempsey was made better by drugs, this makes it easier to argue picking Marciano etc. over him which (unfortunately) is the forum's lifeblood.
I am not sure that I agree. Whatever supplements Corbett and Dempsey took had limited benefits, and were in any event legal. If the modern fighters object ahead of the fantasy fight, they can have the strychnine, and give Dempsey the human growth hormone!
Then you would argue with the person assuming that position. But it's probably still why it would be important to them.
