the 80's, and every other decade with drug addicts, prove that being an addict is a negative to every area of life including ability as a pro boxer. that is basically the definition of addict.

someone using a substance specifically to enhance performance is nothing to do with addiction.

 

I believe there is some truth to both. Dempsey COULD have thrown the fight and he COULD have used cocaine. It wasn't unheard of. I doubt that someone who is down on there luck and struggling to survive would find money to buy cocaine. Newspaper reports say that Dempsey had his guard down and was going to touch gloves when he got caught. Whatever it was, Dempsey ended up knocking Jim Flynn out cold a year later.

Ever notice that everything Maxine said was a tarnish on Dempsey's legacy.

i'm pretty ambivalent to dempsey as a person, probably a bit of a ****, but my life and his are so different i can't judge too much.
