i don't know why some people label others "dumb" if they have different opinions. some points raised are actually valid... - Dirrell is definitely ahead in the scorecards but there's still a potential risk that a big puncher like AA could catch him, specially that AA is starting to ht him a little bit more than the early rounds - it's kinda suspicious that he really got KTFO by AA's shot when his first reaction is put both his hands against his face then suddenly he laid flat on the floor and his legs starting to do some jerky motion. - some folks also "thinks" that he overplayed that act when he did that crying and asking people if he got KO'd i'm not accusing him or stating that i'm sure that he was acting at all. what i and other posters here are saying, is that the way he reacted on that punch was kinda suspicious. with that being said, Dirrell still boxed well and AA still deserved to be DQ'd.
If he did act.. it was smart because AA was starting to get to him pretty decent. But that also means he can take a great shot. Really what was screwed up was the fact that the location and bias for this "prestigious" tournament is influencing the outcomes and results of fights more then they should
I can't believe this discussion even exists, AA was a warped, frustrated man who I'm guessing would've bit his ear off next. He deliberately with malice and forethought loaded up on that punch and delivered it with all the might his bruised little body could muster. Shame on AA and shame on any who would even remotely defend this. Doubley shameful that I think he could've/would've caught Dirrel
as soon as abraham turned the pressure on Dirrell folded with the first easy escape that was offered to him.
I'm still skeptical of this "KO"......He was sitting up to, when the ref took the point deduction from abraham, and then he gets "KO'D" after that...
Some of you people here on ESB are just plain silly. There is no other way to describe it. SILLY. A buncha arm chair boxer wannabe's trying to decide what's best for the sport never having participated in the sport other than watching it on TV. The punch was an illegal shot. There is no doubt about it. But, have any of you stopped to think about what boxers do. They hit other boxers. They try to knock out other boxers. It gets to a point where it becomes INSTINCTIVE. Though Abraham did indeed hit Dirrel with a bad shot, I don't think he realized it until he saw the replay. What was Dirrel doing going down like that anyway? Is this some sort of new defensive tactic? When the other fighter is trying to come on hard, just sit down on the ring mat and hope to be hit with an illegal punch??? Abraham was throwing the kitchen sink at Dirrel who just out of nowhere , went down without being hit cleanly in the midst of some type of wild flurry. He knew Abraham could hit because he got his bell rung and knocked down once already, though Lawrence Cole ( the idiot ref) called a CLEAN BOMB of a punch , a slip. Dirrel was in a procarious position, trapped on the ropes, and Abraham was swinging for the fences. I believe Dirrel was somewhat tiring toward the end of the fight due to some serious punch output and being pressured nearly the entire fight as he boxed a near flawless technical masterpiece. Still he went down ........from.....well, .....nothing. He just sat down. Whatever you want to call it. No one likes what happend last night and the DQ is justified on the technicality of rules. The rules need to be changed in that any fighter intentionally going down to avoid being hit should be ruled a knockdown. Not to say Dirrel went down intentionally, BUT he had nowhere else to go. Abraham was coming on and Dirrel knew it. My point here is that some of the idiots on the forum are calling for Abraham to be banned from boxing. Congrats to Andre Dirrel. Beautiful fight but we all hated the way it ended.
Looks to me like he slipped, I also box so I'm not an armchair warrior. When you get popped with a good shot it feels as if your brain has raddled. Dirrel had no way of protecting himself, on top of that he got smacked dead on the chin. No one knows if he was acting or not, but regardless it was a dirty shot and was no called for.
