The thing is... the reason why so many people are making a bigger deal of this, is because it ended the fight and it frustrated people. If Dirrell had taken the punch no problem, and had finished that round ok, then Abraham wouldn't be getting all the hate he's getting. I'm no Abraham fan, I don't like his style and I'm a Dirrell fan and wanted him to win. I was frustrated by the result but I think Dirrell exaggerated a bit and that pissed me off because he was on his way to winning a UD. But who knows maybe he wasn't KO'd, but he was hurt and didn't want to continue after being hurt by an illegal punch. Anyway, what Abraham did was deliberate, he stopped, then said **** it, and punched him while he was down. It happens, but it's definitely a DQ. I wish they could rematch right away.
yeah and he faked the whole crying and thinking he lost too....bloody ****** conpiracy theorists. eddie chambers was faking when wlad ko'd him too. and bush blew up the world trade shake your heads ******s
he clearly knew what happened, as soon as jim grey asked him he was like "he hit me when i was down" proving he knew all along and the "i got knocked out" was either a act or taken outta context.
In my 30 years of following boxing, this is one of the more scurrilous accusations I've seen leveled against a fighter. I'd like to see some of those who are saying he "faked it" to take that shot while sitting on the canvas. Most of 'em would probably be a coma.
I agree with everything you said. Scurrilous or not, its something that arose as soon as most people watched the fight. Therefore worth discussing...
I just don't know where this comes from though. It seems as if some of these people don't watch much boxing, because they seem to think that there are no such thing as delayed knockdowns/KOs, or that fighters always react in exactly the same way to a KO. It comes from ignorance about the sport, and obvious bias, as far as I can see. I should add, I picked Abraham to win this fight and was rooting for him to do so.
If it was that serious, the doctors letting him be interviewed so soon after the event are a disgrace as are the people trying to get the interview. You don't see fighters apparently that seriously hurt, interviewed so soon like that. Take Taylor for example in the last fight.
As I watch another replay / angle. Dirrell is clearly not at first. He's clearly there, he puts his hands to his face to cover up as he's hurt. The convulsions as i watch it now, look pretty real. Possibly, he went down because he just got punched while he was down. Then the delayed reaction kicked in?
..but Arthur Abraham was the first man to say he was acting, do you not think he knows a bit about boxing, if we want to go down that route? By the way, for the record I'm not convinced either way.
Please, the only one acting was Arbaham. Faking low blows and my new favorite quote by him: "I thought you could still hit them if they fall down by themselves". :verysad
To be fair, the whole thing was a bit of a one-off. I've seen scenarios similar to it, but it was a unique situation, given it was at such a crucial point in the fight, and that it was also heightened by poor refereeing and unprofessional ringside medics....not to mention the way AD went down. I actually would've won a fair bit of cash had Dirrell pulled out the UD but I still wanted Abraham to finish Dirrell LEGIT after his running against Froch. But Dirrell fought great and absolutely deserved the win.
Abraham was upset at having been DQd. People make all sorts of ridiculous statements when they are upset. And he has since, rightfully, backed away from this BS.
