We know the top top fighters he beat up ... De Jesus x 2 Leonard (Peak) Palomino Kobayashi Ishimatsu Buchanan (greatest European fighter ever) Barkley (200lb on the night, ran lb4lb #1 Nunn close next fight) Moore Mamby Marcel Cuevas Castro Etc. A lightweight giving the greatest middleweight ever (Hagler) at his Peak a close and competitive fight in every round, even outboxing him despite massive height/reach disadvantages, is unheard of ever
Benitez might be the most skilled fighter ever in many ways and perfect style to beat Roberto, though the skill Duran showed against WB was unreal He kept coming back and beating everyone through the weights and the decades. That's alien like Great
Instead of laying in wait salivating at the first chance to carry on the Duran obsession/assassination why don't you actually contribute to the thread and give your take on the actual topic?
I didn't make the comment. I said he was a great inside fighter, but when someone says he was the greatest fighter ever. I don't agree. And you guys know why, so why go over that again.
Saul Mamby? He lost to Hagler it isn't like he beat him, and then Sims-yet after he beat Barkley.. Yet Barkley lost to Kalambay, Nunn and Sims in recent years, and one round Benn.. Buchanan? Elite?no.. Cuevas. I was at that fight believe it or not. 18 years old at the Sports Arena off the 10 freeway. Pipino was washed up in 1983.. Castro?? Leonard peak? no.. All these things I have gone over. He was not the greatest ever because he did not beat great fighters. He never knocked out a great fighter. Cuevas was washed up. DeJesus? The best of that corner was Wilfredo, ask Gregorio. You cannot make him the greatest ever. Greatest inside fighter? One of the absolute best which is why he beat Barkley. But greatest fighter? no way.
At least with Rooster you can sense a tongue in cheek critisism, with this guy it is an illness. I am also curious why he felt the need to have 2 accounts before the MAG1965 one was booted. MAG1965 created december 2008 - last seen November 2014 Pernell created Feb 2009.
He was a great I do not deny.. If he was in range he was the best. Problem is when guys had speed and were good enough to fight their fight he faltered, and at times the excuse was he moved up in weight. He also moved up a little in class. Like or not.
I think he was great, I just think there were some limitations which Leonard exposed, similar to how Hagler exposed some of Hearns limitations with coming at him and closing the distance. It happens.
It is not about me. This is boxing opinions. But if you want to know, I lost my password to the original one so I made this one to at least be able to post, then I found the password. No illness, just something I believe. Duran does not have the resume to have best of all time status, and the people who say he is the best ever are more fanboy things than reality based. He had a lot of charisma but I don't think the resume is best of all time. No way. Unless he has more wins against great fighters.
