It's much more forgivable what happened in Durans fight against Hearns with all the almost insormountable physical disadvantages he faced is much more forgivable, than the results of Leonard vs Duran in New Orleans in my opinion. Especially when considering he DID win the 1st fight in Montreal.

Does your wife kick and scratch like Huston? Is that why you`re taking it out on me.

No fighter with Duran`s height and reach could have beaten Hearns.

I would agree there are lots of fine infighters over history and i would agree many from further back get forgotten (as often seen in some threads as many named are more recent names) which is why i nominated a lot of names myself.

One has to admit tho that Duran has to be right around the front end of proceedings. The guy has ravaged many good to great fighters in close and is the epitome of a great infighter. We have so much of it on film too.

Who would you nominate as better or unarguably as good? Your statements would stand up a lot better with some expansion.

Again, names and maybe even a bit of banter would help.

Some overdo it for sure. He's one of the more excuses fighters i've ever seen. He is in all likelihood tho not exactly a million miles away from being the top dog. Of those we have on film not many at all match him.

Glad to see that Fenech got a mention in this thread before it got slightly derailed. He's always been a favourite of mine, and I think if he'd hit the scene ten, maybe fifteen years later than he did, in the era of increased exposure and fanfare for the lower weight classes, he'd be much more highly regarded than he is. Also, far fewer people would be sleeping on his achievements - which are greater than he often gets credit for. A peak Fenech had superb head movement (at least after the first two or three rounds, where he sometimes required a bit of time to find his rhythm), didn't waste shots up close, worked the high-low mix brilliantly and was capable of sustaining a ridiculous pace for the full twelve / fifteen.

Dempsey was easier to hit with the jab than Duran was because he brought his head forward as he crouched bringing it nearer to his opponents jab meaning the punch didn`t have far to travel so was harder to evade, D`Amato told Ali this was the reason Dempsey would have been easier for Ali to beat than Marciano in their respective primes.
