Chris is more like 20 years gone.

But yes, he mastered boxing. He made the most money taking the least punishment, Watson II aside. It's amazing to see the post-fight pressers after Benn II and Calzaghe, where Benn and Calzaghe look exhausted and busted up, and Eubank is fresh and without a mark on him.

Fighters who had the peek-a-boo defence like Watson (I), Malinga, Thornton and Rocchigiani he looked fabulous against, slotting in his slicker, shorter shots where the likes of McCallum, Jones, Toney and Nunn had to open them up or just out-work them.

But against movers and stand-offish mediocrities, like Moro, Sherry, Stretch, Essett, Amaral and Schommer, he looked horrendously poor - crossing his legs and winging long inaccurate punches.

There was little middle ground with the bloke. But his talent was clear!

I tried to ignore it but it was just sitting there, mocking me with it's ludicrous statements

 

I just watched Calzaghe v Eubank today & I was shocked at just how good Eubank was in the fight, dont get me wrong Calzaghe deservedly won but Eubank nailed Joe with some big shots, & was always willing to stand & trade with the younger faster man. A belter of a fight looking back on it, & I wonder if that was a career best performance from Eubank, I never remember him being in such a high tempo fight, usually he was surviving or running(thornton) by the end of fights as his stamina was so poor, it was strange that an old & weight drained Eubank was able to put in a performance like that against the best opponent on his record!

Thats why Im wondering if it was a career best performance from Eubank given the circumstances. Whaddya think?

PS Great seeing all the old faces at ringside too, Frank ****** looking just the same as he always does, Herbie Hide looking as thick as two short planks, Naseem looking thin & in shape, Richard Branson looking like someone from Medieval times... & what was the beef with Eubank shouting at Hamed at ringside during the fight, what was all that about?

The Eubank/Watson II fight was the pace of a lightweight fight, and Watson was far better than Calzaghe in that fight.

Eubank had clearly lost a lot of speed and sharpness and he wasn't jabbing. If Calzaghe fought like that against a '91-'93 Eubank he'd be out of there early.

 

Naz was shouting - 'You're too old Chris, you're too old!'

 

Yeah I think you're right, but Calzaghe was not near his best there. He had been a pro for 3 or 4 years, looked kinda raw and you could argue he was 10 years off his prime.

Eubank 91 v Calzaghe 2007?? I reckon Calzaghe would edge a split.
