He held the WBA, Danny Lopez the WBC I believe. Pedroza was the better fighter, though they were very different stylists, and a bout between the two would've been very entertaining, but I'd wager Pedroza had a few too many tricks up his sleeve for Lopez. Could be some fireworks if Pedroza wasn't careful, though.

No. The title was split at the time.

Yes, after his co-champion died. That basically left him as "the man" by default.

Sometimes even when there are two alphabet titles there is still a lineal champ depending on the situation, like when Zarate beat Zamora, i believe there was no title on the line officially, but that was the title fight.

Did a situation like that happen with Pedroza?

I could trace it if i could be bothered, don't have the energy though

That doesn't make him 'the man' by default, for linear champ to be established 1 and 2 in a division need to meet, if no1 dies and no2 becomes no1 he still needs to beat the new no2 to establish linearity

For instance if Wlad and Vitali are co-champs and 1 and 2, if Vitali dies/retires Wlad doesn't magically become linear champ, he has to fight the recognised no2 surely, ie at the moment Haye

Don't know if he was the lineal champ but he was a badass. I'd see a trilogy between Sanchez and Pedroza being split. I'd give it to Sanchez 2-1 but honestly I'm biased on that topic. Who knows. Damn shame that fight didn't happen.

Yeah, I remember thinking this at the time. You're right. I change my opinion.

Juan LaPorte was the number 1 rated challenger at the time. Pedroza beat him.

Yeah that's the kind of scenario i was asking about.

I need to look more into this and establish a definitive answer

Well you will search for an infinite time then, because you will struggle to find a definate answer.

Has, has been stated, post Sanchez death, by default Pedroza became The Featherweight Champion of the World, on the strength of being the only Featherweight claiming a Featherweight World Title.

Suppose it could be argued that the WBc title was the lineal title as the world title only became split when Saldivar retired for a short spell. On his return he had a good win over Jose Legra and then beat WBC champ Johnny Famechon. Seeing as Saldivar had never lost his title in the ring I think this makes him lineal or as close as your gonna get.

with that the lineal feather that time was the wba title..

so, gomez, nelson and fenech were not lineal champs
