I want to know what you guys think? Was Cotto/Margo fight stopped too soon? To me it was. If it was because of Margo's eye issue and thats the way they were going to view this fight, then it shouldn't have been made in the first place? Margo was medically cleared for the fight and we have seen worse eyes and no stoppage. I felt the doctor didn't answer Max Kellerman's question in the post fight ring interview.

**I'm not trying to take anything away from Cotto's victory, just want to talk boxing.

It was a legit stoppage, but as a fan of Cotto's I wanted to see him continue to beat on Margarito for the next 3 rounds. Cotto was still fresh and was starting to sit on some punches and was landing heavy shots. He may have retired Margarito, but another 3 rounds of punishment would have for sure ended his career.

I think so. The people who hate Margo justify the stoppage, but if they hate him so much and since he was losing the fight, why wouldn't they want to see him take more damage? The truth is Cotto got his revenge stoppage, but with the doctor's help. There is no way Cotto would have stopped Margo on his own.

I felt the stoppage was too soon and Margo could have finished strong. If his eye was cleared by doctors, let him finish the fight; we've seen worse eyes. Margarito always finishes strong and Cotto struggles with pressure fighters especially in championship rounds. Either way, that's not Cotto's fault.

Right, but we have seen worse eyes and no stoppage. Do you think Margarito had a lose/lose situation here? I mean, were the doctors going to stop the fight with first sign of eye danger? If that was the case, the fight shouldn't have happened. Just trying to be fair here.

Plus the doctors and NYSAC approved him fit to fight. Doctor's should have let it continue. I'm not saying Margo would have won. Just think it should have continued for atleast one more round.

I wanted to see it go on, but I just wanted to see Margarito absorb more punishment. I thought the stoppage was fair...

I have seen fighters in worse condition be allowed to continue, but I don't believe that is necessarily a good thing. If a fighter is at risk of permanent injury then the doctor should call it off. Especially in the case of Margarito where he arguably hadn't won a round and looked like he was slowing down, while Cotto was starting to load up on his shots.

Yes I did, but Margo didn't give a ****, he wanted to continue. He wasn't out on his feet, he wanted to continue, so why not let him. It's Ironic that the people who hate Margo are the one's worried about his eye.:-(

I like Margarito, in spite of the hand wrap scandal, he's a warrior. However the stoppage was legit. His eye was wrecked and he hadn't won a round. No way was he going to stop Cotto. Given the risk of permanent injury it probably should have been stopped a round earlier.

Margo for all his glaring flaws is one tough SOB and should have been allowed to continue if him and his corner gave the ok. Someone posted earlier in the thread stating Cotto was starting to sit down more on his punches and while Margo still looked like he was willing swing for the fences his punches where getting wider, slower and more predictable. I think Cotto would have had a good chance of smoger stepping in in the last round, Margo was getting stomped and I did not see any signs of it turning good for him.

this...margarito got himself in this situation because no one looked out for his welfare (including margs himself) in the first place when manny severely beat him down over 12 rounds except manny himself...now he has to live with the consequences and complications that come with it...granted we don't know what the status of his eye now post fight but its clear it wasn't healed enough for fight and judging by how early the eye betrayed him he will have issues with it for a long time if he continues to fight

Good analysis. Didnt look like Margo was going to win anyways, but he was never out on his feet or danger of going down. Cotto could of really gotten his revenge by stopping him in the last round, but even that was not likely.
