He's a lock for the HOF. I can't see how that could classify as a waste of talent.

He would just be another good fighter but not the best at all.
I considered a lot of boxers above him such as a prime DLH, Whittaker,
a prime Roy Jones and so on.

That makes him just a bigger waste of talent.

+1. with his skill, I am confident that he could have lined up cotto, williams, margo and even pac against the wall and bang bang bang.

    instant ATG greatness.

instead, we have a jmm. a hatton and 38 year old mosley.

you use your talent to become successful....Floyd has accomplished an awful lot in Boxing, considered one of the best this generation if not the best. Not to mention he is a multi-millionaire several times over and has set records while doing so........waste of talent?:bart

Some of you may hate the guy for whatever your personal reasons are...but this is nowhere near a waste of talent when looking at the success he has had.

It is considered a waste because of what he could have done instead of what he did, nobody doubts his skill just that his resume could have been a lot better.
Imagine hears had ducked great fighters and choose easy routes for money and easy wins. would we doubt his skill and accomplishments? absolutely not but we could complain about why he didnt tried to get the maximum out of his carreer. As we do nowadays with floyd, he alreadys crewed himself over a lot and his legacy is already scarred.

Floyd already had shown his extra ordinary talent, I believe it only got wasted when he started cherry picking. IMO talent does not go wasted when you choose to test it off all your limits. I think we have not yet seen the real talent of Mayweather.

nah i still dont consider this a waste of talent...way too much success for this to be considered a waste of talent.

Could he have fought i guess a couple fighters some fans want to see him fight, of course....but that doesnt equate to a waste of talent...lke i said its just too much success and accomplishments to consider it a waste of talent.

Mayweather should have the following fights under his belt:

    Prime Margarito
    Prime Cotto
    Prime Williams
    Prime Pac
    Prime Mosley

He most definitely is a wasted talent as he would have won at least 4 out of those 5 fights. Possibly all of them.

Maybe not, but at least he wouldn't have been perceived by many as a "ducker". Does anyone on here really think that Cotto, Margarito, and William's wouldn't have defeated Gatti and Baldomir, which many of Void's fans claim were his biggest fights at 147? The dude is a wasted talent due to having no balls and having nothing but "yes" bitches telling him he is great when he really isn't. End of story.

You're putting the blame solely on him for these fights not happening though.

    1) When was he supposed to fight prime Mosley? We've all seen the post fight interview when Shane says his tooth hurts when asked about a possible Floyd fight.

    2) Williams is and always has been a small-medium name fighter. He fights the Cintron, Margarito, Quintana level guys. His star is growing slowly, but he's never fought a Mosley or Cotto, never mind a Pacquiao or Floyd. One can't blame the big guys for not being willing to take a big pay cut, and Floyd is in this bracket.

    3) I'd have loved to see the Margs and Cotto fights, the falling out with Bob Arum really hindered these happening. I believe he should have tried his best to make the Cotto fight happen, so that I would hold against him. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that Floyd hasn't fought a top rank fighter since leaving Bob Arum. I believe genuine bad relations existed that segregated potential opponents.

    4) He still has time to fight Pac. It will be a massive dent on the career for both of them if they never get in the ring. But I think History will be far more critical of Floyd if it doesn't get done.

Bingo. If he had the mentality of say a Duran, along with his skill set who knows how far he could have gone. He seems only willing to take on fights he can win and avoids trench warfare like the plague, other than that, he's a great, great fighter.
