Do you guys think Mayweather was one of the best athletes of the past 20 years in all of sports?

I've heard people here say that guys like Allen Iverson were far superior athletes, and I think that is just silly.

What do you guys think? Was he just athletic "for a boxer," or was he an actual top class athlete?

Not sure what that all means, rez.
He was a boxer. He didn't compete in other sports, so .... ?

He was a top boxer for most of those 20 years, beat a lot of other top boxers and never lost. And a lot of people regarded him as "the best" of all the boxers of his generation, in "pound for pound" sense. So he was top class in his own sport.
That puts him on a par with guys who were top class in their own sports, I guess.

Wladimir Klitschko deserves a mention. He was the top boxer in the real absolute sense, he'd have crushed Floyd in a boxing match.

What traits do you think make someone a "top class athlete"? I assume we all have different criteria. By my criteria, hell no--guys like Iverson are far superior all-around athletes.

His record speaks for itself, he fought everybody that was put in front of him, and beat them, regardless of what people thought of his opponents, some thought he would lose to certain fighters others didn't, that's boxing.

He had the knack of knowing when to fight certain fighters and when not too, he would fight somebody earlier on there way up knowing it was the right time because they would get better and pose a threat.

He would wait until certain fighters were a little past it knowing he would take advantage.

    Can' fault him really.

He was one of the best, but there was better.

How strong was he? How fast was he? What was his Vo2 Max? What was his vertical jump?

A world class athlete can do it all: Run VERY fast, be VERY strong, have a strong jumping game, potentially crossover to other sports.

Anthony Joshua ticks all the boxes above. Run's the 100m in 11s, is super strong, could crossover into sports such as Rugby, Basketball etc.

A few of the big name athletes I'd put over Floyd during his era in sports:

Jordan (crossover to Baseball. Look at how he moved for his size! Insane!)
Roy Jones (You'll never see an athlete like him in Boxing again)
Rafa Nadal (The ability to cover so much ground in so little time, keep the power up, his stamina & schedule...)
    Kobe Bryant (freak)
    Lebron James (FREAK)
Ronaldo (Don't overlook "Soccer" players. Ronaldo is a monster of an athlete)
    Lomu (F.R.E.A.K)
Eaton (The worlds most well rounded athlete at the moment)
Bolt (Fastest man to ever live, say no more!)

he handpicked and fought guys at the right time. I don't like that kind of boxer. He never fought the best when they were there to fight. and I think that limits his legacy.. He constructed his record

He's not even in the same conversation as most of these guys and there are many, many other non-big name athletes who I'd also rank as probably more athletic than Mayweather.
