LOL people bringing up Usain Bold. Dude runs in a straight line for 10 seconds and
that's supposed to impress us? No one trying to knock him down, no obstacles in his
way, no weather issues, etc. And everyone who is reasonably in shape can get within
20% of his record (9.58 sec/100m X 1.2=11.5 secs which I did in High School).

But I bet very few people of any weight last 3 rounds with Mayweather in his prime
and if he wanted to KO you.

I agree Mayweather is one of the best athletes of his era, not just because he was a
great boxer but because of his dedication to his craft i.e. ALWAYS being in shape.

James is a bad example.. I don't think he is that great because of his losses at big times. He is Hall of fame for sure.. Mayweather to me is not all time great.

    Of course he isn't.

But if we are going to name the 10 most popular sports, Floyd has to be involved as he's the No.1 in Boxing. Not to mention that he was a specimen in his prime.

the answer is no he is a fraud. He was after money and constructing and undefeated record, so he could say later even without great fights on his resume that he was the greatest ever. The greatest ever doesn't make Canelo weaker to fight him. Or fight guys older or fight a mma fighter for that type of money, not feeling bad he ripped off the public.. So the answer to the question is NO.

You can't really call anyone an ALL ROUND athlete until they've proven themselves COMPETING in more than one sport or athletic endeavour.

Gym tests like vertical jumps mean nothing. There's a competitive event called HIGH JUMP, that counts.

Being an ATHLETE is about competing on an official stage under rules against others. It's not about fitness tests done in the gym. That's just physical training. Lots of people do that.
It's not about how fast or strong you look or perform in training. Being an ATHLETE is about turning up for the competition and performing under proper supervision and rules and judges.

Ashton Eaton is the most well rounded ATHLETE on the planet.

He competes in a bunch of different disciplines.

    Exactly.
He has every right to be called a great athlete, he proved himself over 10 track and field events in Olympic competition.

Jordan is up there for sure... Although just an OK Baseball player, at least he made it .. and a scratch golfer .. Got to give more credit to athletes who can do it in multiple sports ... And don't forget about BO Jackson !!!.. I would say both here are more than Floyd

Not sure I follow but I think I disagree. The most athletic people in the sports world just don't become professional prizefighters. For example, by the usual standards of athleticism, I'd assume that virtually every single high-level cornerback (including D1 starters and NFL practice squad players) is probably more athletic than Floyd Mayweather Jr.

By the way, I'd bet there are plenty of less successful boxers who are better all around athletes than Mayweather.
