No guys like Benitez, Pep or Whitaker were better. He probably makes the Top 10 though. Keep in mind that Floyd thought defense first in the ring.

Love him or hate him, his defence is bar none, think about all the great boxers he made look severey overmatched, like de la hoya, or berto, canelo, or pacman if you wanted to count that one.

Why would a fighter want to earn money by getting hit more often when he can easily earn it by barely ever getting hit at all?

It's much easier to be evasive when your fighting strictly from a defensive mind set. Note Mayweather from his early yrs. He got hit, though not cleanly more. Reason being he was fighting more offensive minded, looking for and creating the openings by his offensive mind set, opposed to waiting for the perfect opening and pop-shoting as he did later and at the higher weight. Their are plenty of fighters through-out history of boxing who could've been just as evasive, if they fought with Mayweathers mind set during his later yrs. Whitaker, Benitez, Robinson, Napoles, Leonard, Pep, W.Gomez (in prime, when focused on all of his skills not just his power, he was beautiful to watch . ) M.Mccalum J.Toney, (Even fat, fighting at a weight he shouldn't have ever gotten too.) to name a few. Also, competition also have a lot to do with it also. Fighting fighters who no longer possess the skill level to land on a skilled fighter, or fighters who were never weres also plays a very big part in Mayweathers "evasiveness".

I spent the entire decade of the 1980s believing that Hector Camacho was God. It was helluva lot of fun. Turns he wasn' t God after all. The 80s were crazy.

Yeah, no doubt about it for me... By a stretch.

A lot of people hate him, and they'll struggle to see past that and admit the obvious

He evaded his best competition by never fighting them. As he moved up and lost his KO power either through brittle hands or weight he had to fall back on defence. I didn't like the one shot punch and hug style, and he was gifted every single close decision including some very dodgy ones, but he did have great reflexes and boxing nous.
