I’m with you. It was 10 count KO, not a stoppage. I’ve also timed the count before and it was an exact 10 seconds. Often counts are are little bit longer, like 11, 12 or even 13 seconds so Clayton’s count might’ve appeared “relatively” fast but it was no less than 10 seconds. The completion of the count saw the fight end at 2:58 of the round, so just 2 secs left before the bell. Foreman would’ve got the rest period but it wouldn’t have cured his empty tank. Foreman was worse off but FWIW, Ali was extremely tired also, which was why he knew to step it up when he did and get George out of there If it had gone into round 9, Ali would’ve sucked it up and either still KO’d or stopped Foreman, just IMO.
Yes i just rewatched the video and realized that you are correct. Being as it is, I stand corrected. However, in the movie they only count til 8. and Bob Sheridan was at 8 when Foreman stood up.
Besides all that’s been written here, Foreman was certainly mentally done as well, and that’s an even bigger factor than physical exhaustion. He was cooked. Would be for a while, too.
Arthur Schopenhauer once said "I did not say "There are two kinds of people in this world. Avoid them both." But I do wish I had said that before I died because that one is a banger." Arthur Schopenhauer was right on all counts.
